Super Mario Galaxy running natively on PS5, PS Vita and PC

By Tgames · · 2 min read

Super Mario Galaxy runs natively on PC, on a jailbroken PS5 in 4K at 60 frames per second, and even on PS Vita, from your own Wii disc.

The decompilation pays off

In September, we reported the completion of the Super Mario Galaxy decompilation (the Petari project). A month later, three playable ports are out. All of them require your own Wii disc image, and none contains any game files. Nebula and the Vita version say they were written with AI agents (Claude), directed and tested by their authors.

On PC: Nebula

Nebula, by keepvaibin (version 1.0.2 from October 29), compiles Petari's code into a Windows program. The game is playable from start to finish, with a few bugs. On the menu: aspect ratios from 4:3 to 32:9, internal resolution up to 16 times the Wii's, DLSS and FSR 3, gyro aiming, 34 achievements and Riivolution mods. You need Windows 10 or 11, a Direct3D 12 graphics card and an AVX2 processor; the US, European and Japanese discs (revision 0) are accepted.

On a jailbroken PS5

PS5_MarioGalaxy, by griches (version 1.1.0 from October 21), compiles Nebula for the console: 4K at 60 frames per second. A small app, on Mac or PC, builds the game folder (about 4.5 GB) in 4 to 10 minutes, to be copied over FTP. You need a PS5 that runs homebrew (etaHEN or similar) with ShadowMountPlus, and only the US RMGE01 disc, first printing. An HD texture pack is supported.

On PS Vita

Galaxy Vita, by the CBOC-Vita-Lab team (version 1.1 from October 26), compiles the game for the Vita's processor. Star Bits are aimed with the rear touch pad, the touch screen replaces the pointer and tilting steers the Star Ball. Measured by the project: 51 frames per second on average in Good Egg Galaxy, 43 in the Comet Observatory, rendering at 640×456 up to 960×544. You need the US RMGE01 disc, about 2.5 GB free and libshacccg.suprx.

The Game Boy Advance already had its own Galaxy, remade from scratch.
