I have a black Limited Edition Wii updated to 4.2E. (with 2 Wii motion plus, Wii sports and Wii sports Resort... Huge game!!!)

I'll read the 4.2 hack tutorial in detail...
What I've already understood (I think) before getting into hacking my black wii...

1 - Above all no Downgrade...
2 - No installing Ciospack (reading backups only possible with a UsbLoader on an external HDD) because the new drive is tamper-proof.
3 - Installing Bootmii possible only as IOS. (Boot1 fixed and boot2 in 2v4 if I understood correctly)

After reading the tutorial, I'll surely have some questions before getting started....

Exactly: read the tutorial and perform all the steps (while you're at it, in order)

Note: I also did the IOS222/223 patch steps and Cios Hermes steps even though theoretically optional, and I didn't run into any problems.
It *could be* (conditionally) that the IOS70 patch causes an issue later on (the 4.2 menu disappearing) if these steps aren't done. (To be confirmed!). it can be fixed but still..
Anyway, I'd advise doing all the steps anyway (except the end of the tutorial since it's obvious that with a Black Wii you won't be able to read backups from the DVD drive)

you slipped up there ydhainaut

the IOS 222/223 and CIOS Hermes are the same thing. I assume you meant to compare it with the ios70 patch but I don't see how that could cause a problem.

Good tutorial but I have a small problem...

Preloader 0.30 doesn't want to launch the "system menu"

Error autobooting system menu!
ES_Diverfiy failed!

IOS v70 (as in the tutorial)

In case, like me, you had the bright idea of setting in "preloader -> "settings" -> "System menu" to "autoboot" and "return to" then saving and restarting...

To unbrick
Power button then reset to get preloader.
then I launched HBC (homebrew) then (DOP-IOS MOD)

in DOP-IOS MOD
IOS 70
then I put the system menu back to 4.2E which came back as 3.2E -> A -> A
if you have internet it should work.

My question, going back to the 4.2E system menu, where should I resume the tutorial from (my question, which cIOS got broken?)

What should I do to get the system menu working OK? (I've tried the procedure several times, it doesn't care...)

Small remark: the tools used on the SD aren't very up to date.

I'll give you a detail of my files to help improve your tutorial.

SD: (HC in my case)
-Any Title Deleter 5
-Channel File Manage 2.0 beta 4
-(!) cIOS 222 installer 4
-cIOS UNINSTALLER 1.1
-Custom IOS 2.1 (rev15)
-Dop-IOS MOD 10
-MPlayer CE 0.76 FR (for the fr patch see here)
-MyMenuify GUI 2.2
-Pimp my Wii 1.32
-Preloader 0.30 (which supports SDHC)
-Trucha Bug Restorer 1.11
-USB Loader GX 1.0 r866 (you'll need to update it by itself. for the language etc..)

PC:
-WBFS Manager 3.0.1 x86/x64
