Like a dummy I posted a message on the 4.1 tutorial...
...
Well, sorry.
So, now my case (and case that many will have, Christmas approaching).
I have a black limited edition wii bought in France. Originally it's in 4.1E. I plugged it in via wi-fi to the net and I did the official UPDATE to 4.2E.
I read that we need to wait for you to give us the green light to start hacking the black wii 4.2E.
1 / I also read that you recommended a self-powered external hard drive: newbie question: does the hard drive draw power from the wii's power supply, won't it eventually damage the wii's power supply or can it handle it without problem?
2 / I would need to know if bootmii in IOS is not dangerous in 4.2, since I can't put it in boot2. Are you working on a program to be able to put it in boot2?
3/ I am very attentive for this 4.2E tutorial, so if I can help don't hesitate. Not to fiddle with my wii, but to do research, retrieve links, rewrite information, correct mistakes...
Good luck and thank you very much.
OK merci darkscad.
B- Installed Bootmii in IOS (! Important protection!)
...
* the update to 4.2 modified boot2
Hi, I get the impression you're implying that the 4.2 update permanently prevents installing bootmii in boot2.
But I thought I read that installing bootmii in boot2 is still possible on consoles that accepted it before the update.
What I understood:
the 4.2 update updates boot2 (boot2v4), which overwrites bootmii if it had been erased, but that doesn't prevent reinstalling bootmii because the problem (or the interest for us "hackers") is that on these consoles, it's boot1 that is buggy (which allows modifying boot2).
If that's confirmed, it might be worth mentioning
B- Installé Bootmii en IOS (!Protection importante !)
...
* la mise a jour en 4.2 a modifie le boot2
you understood the relationship between boot1 and boot2 correctly. Updating to 4.2 removes bootmii (hacked) but doesn't prevent reinstalling it if it was possible before. this bug, unintentional at first, actually served bigN well, who gradually added it to all Wiis afterward.
You have to put bootmii in boot2 on the black one right when you buy it (currently on 4.1E) then do the update to 4.2E.
Then bootmii is removed but can be reinstalled. (???)
On the other hand if the console never had bootmii in boot2 and it was updated to 4.2, it's screwed, you can no longer install bootmii in boot2, is that right?
no that's not it. if a Wii can accept bootmii in boot2, it will always be able to, regardless of the system menu version. as for the black Wiis, that's for sure no boot2, and also like many white Wiis produced since June or July.
and never do an official update except in extremely particular and rare cases.

hi rmylem
did you follow all the steps?
did you understand all the steps ...?
what should I improve to make the tutorial more understandable?,
I saw on the internet that other sites do the same procedures,
so the tutorial is already tried and tested.
if you succeeded alone, the tutorial is VALID.

please reply.
salut rmylem
as tu suivi toutes les étapes ?
as tu comprises toutes les étapes ... ?

ok so the forum's counting isn't per unique visitor!
I thought that when a person looks at a topic, they could come as many times as they wanted in a day and it would only be counted once!
-it only counts it as a unique visitor/day (by IP),
but I understand the principle now.
thanks Oops for the clarification!
a+
New arrival and new buyer of a "black edition" Wii on 4.1 updated to 4.2E (oops lol)
My goal is to be able to play burned games via usb and if possible also burned DVDs.
As I'm writing to you, I've already spent 10 hours searching the net for an EFFECTIVE and WORKING tutorial. Let me explain:
HBC: OK and the rest of the Hack OK, no error message... except that it's impossible to install USBloader Gx (I can launch it but it won't install). For Neogamma, install OK, but impossible to launch games (neither via burned DVD nor via USB)
For info: 2.5" self-powered HDD, with games in iso format (formatting ok => WBFS manager)
I should mention that the HDD I'm using works on other Wiis.
I've read on forums that many tutorials say to connect the right USB port to the HDD (when looking at the back of the Wii). I tried, it boots, slows down the countdown but nothing happens....
Anyway, it's a bit of a struggle really... LOL
I'm ready to try your Hack for 4.2E (I have a backup of my original config)
Thanks
Bonjour.
Merci
tanguy-3 wrote:thanks but do we have to do a Dump
if so is a 512mb SD enough
*I recommend 1gb minimum, (you never know),
sometimes manufacturers' capacities differ from reality! (if 512 written, 510 actual)
I think that could be catastrophic! (I don't know if bootmii checks the size before a dump!)
in my Tutorials you are not obliged to do anything!!
It's just tips....
just in case you have an issue! (brick... you'll be happy to have your dump!!! look at other brick issues, many people skipped this step....)
