TimeSplitters 2 (PS2) recompiled natively for Linux

By Tgames · · 2 min read

TimeSplitters 2 runs natively on Linux and Steam Deck from your PS2 disc: 60 fps, true 16:9, 8x resolution and split screen for up to 4 players.

TimeSplitters 2 without an emulator

Developer Destinity13 released on November 8, 2026 the first version of a native port of TimeSplitters 2, version 0.9.0, followed within the hour by version 0.9.1, which fixes launching on the Steam Deck. The game's PS2 code is recompiled to C++ with PS2Recomp, then compiled for Linux: no processor is emulated while you play. Graphics go through PCSX2's graphics engine, on Vulkan. The project's code is licensed under GPL-3.0.
The archive, about 70 MB, contains no game code or data, and no BIOS: the launcher checks your disc image, recompiles it and compiles it on your machine, with its own compiler.

What works
  • 60 fps in game, in the menus and in split screen, a true 16:9 (wider field of view, interface kept in proportion) and an internal resolution up to 8 times the original;
  • the first story level (Siberia, 1990), two-player split-screen co-op, Arcade against bots, challenges and MapMaker, compared frame by frame with PCSX2;
  • up to four players in Arcade with a third controller, the memory card and the videos.
Story levels 2 to 10 have not been tested yet, sound is not fully checked and the Steam Deck remains experimental.

What you need
  • Linux x86-64 with python3, or a Steam Deck; there is no Windows version yet;
  • your disc as an image, US version SLUS-20314 only.

Be careful

The author says they develop with Claude, an AI coding agent, and check every change against PCSX2. Download only from the project's GitHub page. Another project recompiles the Xbox version of the game. To play through emulation, see our PCSX2 tutorial. Other PS2 games already have their native port: God of War and Budokai Tenkaichi 3.
