GTA V recompiled natively on PC, Mac, iPhone and Android
The Xbox 360 version of GTA V now runs natively on PC, Mac, iPhone and Android, recompiled on your own computer from your own discs.
GTA V with no emulator, from PC to iPhone
On 2 November 2026, andrewnakas released gtav-recomp 0.3.0, a static recompilation of Grand Theft Auto V in its Xbox 360 version. The game's PowerPC code is translated into C++ and then compiled into native code, with a new Vulkan renderer (MoltenVK on Apple devices). The project is built with ReXGlue 0.10.0, under the GPL-3.0 license. A single package covers everything: Windows, Linux and Mac, and that same package also builds the iPhone and Android versions.
Nothing from the game in the download
The project's strength is its method. The download contains no Rockstar code, data or shaders. The launcher reads your discs 1 and 2 (as ISOs or folders) and your Title Update 27, checks every file against SHA-256 hashes, then generates the game's 811 C++ files and compiles them on your machine with the bundled LLVM. Expect 15 to 30 minutes, only once. Other title updates do not work: only TU27 is supported.
The author insists: everything that comes out of this build remains Rockstar's work and must never be shared, neither the compiled game, nor the shaders, nor the iPhone or Android apps it produces. To copy your own discs, see our Xbox 360 tutorial.
What you need
Announced performance
According to the project's measurements, the game runs at 45-60 frames per second in the open world on an 8 GB M1 Mac, around 30 fps in the city on an iPhone 13 mini (20 in heavy scenes) and at 28-29 fps on a Galaxy S23 FE, less when the phone heats up. On phones, the game renders at 75% of 720p, with touch controls that a Bluetooth controller hides. The author's advice: play on the computer for a while first, because the phone gets the shaders the computer has already seen.
Good to know
This is version 0.3: expect bugs. Rockstar and Take-Two have had fan projects taken down in the past, and nothing guarantees this one will stay online. Only download it from its GitHub page. After GTA IV on jailbroken PS5 and Vice City Stories on PC, it is the biggest GTA yet to go through recompilation.

What you need
- PC: Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, or a recent Linux, a processor with AVX2 (Intel Haswell, AMD Zen or newer) and a Vulkan driver;
- Mac: macOS 15 or newer and an Apple chip (M1 or later). The app is not notarized: you have to allow it in the Privacy & Security settings;
- 8 GB of RAM, about 25 GB free during setup, then 17 GB;
- iPhone: an iPhone 12 or newer on iOS 17, installed with Sideloadly or AltStore. With a free Apple ID, the app has to be re-signed every 7 days;
- Android: a recent Snapdragon phone (tested on a Galaxy S23 FE) and about 40 GB free during setup.
