The Xbox 360 version of F.E.A.R., more complete than the original PC release, runs natively on Windows, Linux and Steam Deck, in 4K and at up to 120 fps.

Released a year after the PC original, the Xbox 360 version of F.E.A.R. is the most complete: an Instant Action mode, a submachine gun that can be dual-wielded and a bonus level, "Holiday", that the PC never got. F.E.A.R. 360 Recompiled, by Juansolo457 (MIT licence), runs it natively thanks to ReXGlue, which translates the game's PowerPC code into C++. Version 1.0 came out on 30 October for Linux and the Steam Deck, to be compiled yourself; version 1.5.1, released on 1 November, comes ready to play, with the first Windows build.

What's new in 1.5
  • Direct3D 12 rendering at 1280×720, 2560×1440 or 3840×2160 on Windows, at up to 120 fps synced to the display. Linux and the Steam Deck render at 720p.
  • PC-style keyboard and mouse controls with rebindable keys, or a controller.
  • With your own PC game, a pack of PC version textures built on your machine, and redrawn text that stays sharp in 4K.
  • A "John Wick" mode: infinite ammo, dual pistols and unlimited slow motion.
  • The Holiday bonus level accessible from the main menu (1.0.2).
The console version's high-frame-rate bugs are fixed, notably with EchoPatch's fixes. The F.E.A.R. Files expansion (Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate) will come in a future version.

What you need

Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, a CPU with AVX2 and a Direct3D 12 graphics card; or a Steam Deck, or a Linux PC with Vulkan 1.3. You also need your own Xbox 360 disc of F.E.A.R., as an image, and Python 3 to extract it. The archives contain only the program, no game data.
