Forza Horizon recompiled for PC: 144 fps and online play brought back to life
2026 update: recompiling Xbox games goes on, with Dead or Alive 3 running natively on PC; read on in our news story Dead or Alive 3 ported natively to PC, up to 4K.
Forza Horizon (2012) runs natively on PC thanks to ReXGlue: 60 to 144 fps, all 23 DLC, and an online server that brings Colorado back to life.
The first Forza Horizon, running natively
The Forza Horizon 1: ReImagined project released on 14 October 2026 its launcher 0.1.0, for Linux (Flatpak) and Windows, followed the same day by a 0.1.1 that fixes the Windows installer. The approach is the same as for The Darkness: the Xbox 360's PowerPC executable is recompiled into C++ with the ReXGlue kit, then compiled for PC. This is not emulation.
What works
Online play returns
Xbox LIVE on the Xbox 360 and Turn 10's services shut down long ago. The project provides its own server, Forza Live, to self-host, with a public instance to join. The “Horizon World” playlist brings connected players together in the same Colorado, and leaderboards, ghosts, monthly Rivals and car clubs work again.

What works
- The whole single-player game, from the first drive to the end of the festival, with sound and saves. A game started on the Xenia Canary emulator can be continued.
- Title Update 4, with the Horizon Rally expansion and the 1000 Club, and the 23 DLC.
- 60, 120 or 144 frames per second (up to 240 in the settings), without breaking the physics or the race timer.
- Controller, or keyboard and mouse.

What you need
- Your own copy of the game: the Games on Demand package or the ISO of disc 1 of the base version. The repository contains no game code or data: the recompilation happens on your machine.
- Linux x86-64 or 64-bit Windows 10/11, a Vulkan 1.3 graphics card, around 4 GB of free memory and 15 GB of disk space.
