Crash of the Titans recompiled natively for PC, at 500 fps

By Tgames · · 2 min read

CrashRecomp turns Crash of the Titans into a native PC game, built at home from your Xbox 360 copy: 4K, DLSS, local co-op and 500 fps.

Crash, “Definitive Edition”

CrashRecomp, by VitoMiguelF, came out as version 1.0 on 22 October 2026, followed by four updates up to 1.04 on the 24th. The Xbox 360 code of Crash of the Titans (2007) is recompiled into PC code with XenonRecomp, and a new engine replaces the console: graphics, sound, controllers, saves.

What it brings
  • the original 30 fps or an unlocked frame rate (60, 120 or unlimited), up to 4K internal resolution, windowed or full screen;
  • DLSS and DLAA on NVIDIA RTX cards, FSR 3.1 on any card;
  • keyboard and mouse, Xbox and DualSense controllers, and since 1.02 local co-op: player 2 rides on Crash's back;
  • skippable cutscenes (1.01), remastered lighting and an experimental free camera;
  • an optional 4.5 GB “HD AI Remaster” pack: AI-upscaled textures and smoothed models.
Version 1.04 draws the scene in a single pass instead of the Xbox 360's three tiles. In the first level's village at 1080p, the author goes from about 180 to 500 fps (Ryzen 7 5700X and RTX 5080).

What you need
  • your own copy of the Xbox 360 game, extracted: the folder that holds default.xex and the.rcf files. Only the retail default.xex is accepted;
  • Windows 10 or 11 64-bit and a Vulkan 1.3;
  • about 1.5 GB of space, plus 4.5 GB for the HD pack.
The repository contains no game files or code: since 1.03 the archive carries its own build tools, and the installer recompiles the game on your PC from your copy, in about two minutes on an eight-core CPU. The author says the project's code was written with Claude Code. For your other Xbox 360 games, see our Xenia Canary tutorial.
