2026 update: the Nintendo 64 now comes to jailbroken PS5 too, with Mupen64Plus PS5; read on in our news story Mupen64Plus PS5 0.7: the Nintendo 64 in HD on a jailbroken PS5.

After the PS2 and the GameCube, the jailbroken PS5 gets two new native emulators: Snes9x PS5 for the Super Nintendo, and PSXS5 for the PlayStation 1.

Snes9x PS5: the Super Nintendo

Snes9x PS5, by MisterTemaki, has gone from 2.0 (4 October 2026) to 2.3 (9 October). Based on Snes9x 1.63, it installs as a home screen application:
  • a cover art shelf, with automatic game recognition;
  • up to four DualSense controllers, with multitap support;
  • save states, cheat codes, translation patches (IPS, UPS, BPS), 1080p output.
No netplay or rewind yet.

PSXS5: the PlayStation 1

PSXS5, by SynoPiia, is at version 2.2.0 (9 October). It is based on PCSX-ReARMed, with a Vulkan SwanStation option:
  • CHD, CUE/BIN, PBP and ISO formats, from a USB stick;
  • RetroAchievements, latency reduction (run-ahead), xBR smoothing;
  • NeGcon controller and mouse support.
It is installed by copying the PPSA97510 folder to /data/homebrew/, with a loader such as ShadowMountPlus.

Good to know

Both projects only state that a jailbroken PS5 is required: the exact firmware range is not specified. As always, the games and the PS1 BIOS must come from your own consoles and discs. The PS5's other emulators are covered in our Porpoise, PS5SX2 and XPSemu article and in the essential PS5 homebrews.
