MediEvil on PC: the 1998 PS1 classic recompiled as a native widescreen port
MediEvil (PS1, 1998) returns on PC: it has been recompiled as a native port, with widescreen support and improved visuals, and can be completed from start to finish.
MediEvilRecomp
The project MediEvilRecomp, by BlackLabelHQ, is a static recompilation of the US PS1 version. Its authors point out that it is not a decompilation, even though decompilation work was used to name the functions.
What you need
Your own copy of the game, in the US version (NTSC-U), in BIN/CUE or CHD format;.NET 10 and an OpenGL 2.1 graphics card. A script is provided for Linux and the Steam Deck. The European version, and therefore the French one, is not listed as supported. To dump your discs, see the “dumping your discs” section of our PS1 on PSP tutorial.
“Handmade”
Unlike several recent ports, the authors state that they used no artificial intelligence at all, and they reject AI-generated contributions. A counterpoint to the debate sparked by the Banjo-Tooie port.

- Version 0.1b (1 October 2026) bringswidescreen, a longer draw distance, high frame rates and a fix for the PS1's wobbly geometry. The game can be completed, all chalices included.
- Version 0.2b (3 October) replaces that fix with a true modern renderer, fixes the map in 16:9 and adds automatic updates.
