As already said: Black 4.2e Wii softmodded with no problem with this tutorial, THANKS again for the great work!

Relevant question: i have a friend who also has a black 4.2e Wii, is it possible to restore MY backup after the hack onto his console (after installing bootmii, of course).

Thanks in advance.
Chris

Merci d'avance.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!!

That's a guaranteed brick! Each nand backup contains data specific to your WII. It's obviously possible to do it (i recently found out that almost everything is possible on Wii ) but it requires editing the Nand backup. Generally, that operation is reserved for the rare case of a brick that happened without a nand backup, provided you took care to protect your console beforehand via bootmii or pre/priiloader.

Anyway, to make it short, take 20 minutes to hack your friend's console via the tutorial rather than risking a brick.

what differentiates the Nand of 2 wiis is its key, useful for being recognized online and for online games (among other things) but there's also the fact that nands have "bad blocks" (faulty sectors) that differ from one to another. For that last part there's no solution and the chances of having the same number of bad blocks in the same place are pretty much impossible.
