my question is the following: ok I followed the tutorial and so far it's going well but I get to the priiloader and there I admit I'm scared to death: is it a mandatory step? what's it for? and above all being the very newbie that I am I don't understand a thing about the procedure!!
so help, please have mercy, in short HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need help

another question by the way: I noticed there are some serious differences between this tutorial and other tutorials from other sites! why? (and once again please be patient, you're dealing with an "old guy" who understands nothing!!

greetings, (old) petitogre, first off I recommend you only follow one tutorial and stick to it all the way through...
priiloader isn't mandatory but it's one of the current major anti-brick protections, skipping it could be harmful in case of a problem.
next did you get my pack (hackwii 4.2)?
because on it there's the special hacks.ini for 4.2e (yes your console must be european).

And finally your doubts, if during the priiloader installation you get the message "the password could not be deleted impossible" or a message like that... it's NORMAL
because priiloader is looking for a file that was never created on your wii, hence the inability to delete it.
no problem at all on that front!

Now to test that the Priiloader has indeed been installed follow this PROCEDURE:
1-wii off
2- hold the reset button
3- turn on your wii
4- there you go, priiloader should launch like magic! cya

priiloader is an anti-brick protection so it's essential. plus it can block updates.
Be more precise about what you don't understand

I don't know all the tutorials you're talking about

but I can assure you that this tutorial is surely one of the most detailed and it's up to date so don't hesitate.... GO GO GO

apparently my install went well thanks to you
all I have left to do is install wiiflow on the sd card, which is giving me a little problem because I don't know which .dol I need to put on the sd card in the apps folder: the 249 or the 222?

first of all you always write 4.2e is that only for european wiis because I have a us one, is it the same for the procedure?

secondly I did the whole procedure smoothly, even for installing priiloader I watch the youtube video and everything is the same, everything goes just like his until I get to the hack menu for the system menu, I select it and it tells me no hacks found for the system menu version: v481. I can't choose like he does in a menu and yet I have the hacks.ini file at the root of my sd card
