First of all well done for this topic (and this tutorial).

I have two little questions:

1/ Do you really need a self-powered 2.5 external HDD rather than one plugged into the mains? Because the self-powered hdd is powered by the wii via USB, aren't we risking wearing out the wii console's power supply (not designed for that?)??

2/ Of course, to add to the difficulties, starting from my brand new black 4.1E I did (yes really!) the official update to 4.2E via the console connected to the internet. So, can I still get out of this and still install what's needed, on 4.2E then, to be able to play backups via an external HDD via the USB loader (or another one?)

1/ Faut-il vraiment un DD externe en 2.5 autoalimenté plutôt qu'un branché sur secteur ? Car le dd autoalimenté est alimenté donc par la wii via USB, ne risque t-on pas à force de niquer l'alim de la console wii (non prévue pour ça ?) ??

2/ J'ai bien sûr, pour multiplier les difficultés, à partir de ma black 4.1E toute neuve fait (et oui !) la MAJ vers 4.2E officielle via console reliée à internet. Du coup, est-ce que je peux m'en sortir et quand même installer ce qu'il faut, en 4.2E donc, pour pouvoir lire des backup via un DD externe via l'USB loader (ou autre ?)

why a self-powered one (2.5)
because when the wii turns off the USB ports get cut off too so the hard drive too.
so it's a completely invisible way of operating the drive (no action needed to launch it)
so it's more practical than anything else.
it's been 4-5 months that I've been using a 2.5 hard drive.
and the only way to fry a usb port is to pull it out like a savage while the device is powered or an overload which isn't the case here.
the wii has USB ports for a reason? let's use them... even if it's misused ...(who knows maybe it was even planned that way)
port 0 provides more power than port 1 (mainly for charging the controller)
it's like the internet provider Alice... you ask them what the front usb port is for? just to look pretty (no use at all) lol!

pourquoi un auto-alimenté (2.5)
car lors de extinction de la wii les ports USB sont éteint donc le disque dur aussi.
c'est donc un fonctionnement invisible du disque (aucune manipulation a faire pour le lancer)
donc c'est plus pratique que autre chose.
cela va faire 4-5 mois que j'utilise un disque dur 2.5.
et la seule manière de griller un port usb est de le retirer comme un sauvage pendant l'alimentation du périphérique ou une surcharge qui n'est la le cas ici.
la wii a des ports USB pour une raison ? servons nous en... même si c'est détourné ...(qui c'est il avait peut être prévu ca)
le port 0 fournit plus de courant que le port 1 (pour la charge des manette principalement)
c'est comme le fournisseur internet Alice... tu leur demande a quoi servent le port en USB façade? a faire jolie (aucune utilité) mdr !

but if you're calm... (kick out all the kids, lock up the dog...etc)
you'll succeed (don't forget a step especially the one in red !) Dump....etc..
