Budokai Tenkaichi 3 native on PC, playable online
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 runs natively on PC with Tenkaichi3Decomp, which adds online play, tournaments and a first Mac version.
The PS2 game recompiled, not emulated
Tenkaichi3Decomp, by z3xox, is a native port of the US version of the PS2 game (SLUS-21678), built on its BT3-Decompiled decompilation: it is the game's own code, compiled for PC, with a new renderer, new audio and new controller handling. Launched in early October, the project has gone through more than fifty releases, and the last few weeks have turned the port into an online game.
Online play, from lobby to tournament
Graphics and the rest
Rendering goes through Vulkan, with OpenGL 3.3 as a fallback, from 1× to 8× the original resolution, in 4:3, 16:9, 21:9 or wider. An experimental option inserts interpolated frames to reach 60, 120 or 240 fps, while fights are still computed 30 times per second. The port accepts texture packs made for PCSX2, as well as added arenas and music. French, German, Spanish and Italian text can be imported from your European disc.
With your own disc, and beware of fake sites
The repository contains no game files: you need the image of your own disc (US version), read by the installer, and Windows 10 or 11 or Linux. The authors warn that sites offering to play Budokai Tenkaichi 3 in a browser are not affiliated with the project and distribute the game's code. Only download from the repository listed in the sources. For other PS2 games, see our PCSX2 tutorial.

Online play, from lobby to tournament
- Tenkaichi Budokai Online, in the main menu: quick match, ranked matches, lobbies and join codes, without opening any port on your router.
- The rollback: your moves go out immediately, and the game corrects itself when your opponent's inputs arrive. Windows and Linux play together.
- (0.1.38.8, 26 October) Eight-seat lobbies, two players and six spectators, with text chat.
- (0.1.38.9) Quick match first looks for players within roughly 2,500 km, to reduce latency.
- (0.1.39, 28 October) Tournaments for 2 to 8 participants, with brackets, and a game that updates itself, after checking the signature of each update.
- (0.1.39.3, 31 October) Widescreen menus by default, a screen reader in the settings, and a first Mac version (Apple M1 chips or newer, macOS 11), still experimental.
