SwitchNOW 1.3: GeForce NOW up to 1080p60 on Switch

By Tgames · · 1 min read

SwitchNOW 1.3 lets you play GeForce NOW games on a modded Switch, up to 1080p at 60 frames per second, with three picture modes and four controllers.

NVIDIA's cloud on Switch

SwitchNOW, by Blade-Punisher (MIT licence), is a GeForce NOW client for the Switch running Atmosphère. Games run on NVIDIA's servers: the console receives the picture in H.264, decoded by its Tegra X1 chip, and sends back the controls. The project is affiliated with neither NVIDIA nor Nintendo. You need a GeForce NOW account: the catalogue, session length and queues depend on your membership. On the free tier, NVIDIA's ads play as normal.

Version 1.3.0

Released on 31 October, it brings together the many test builds of the 1.2.1 branch:
  • three picture modes, Performance, Balanced (the default) and Quality, and better recovery after packet loss;
  • up to four controllers, a touch-screen mouse, and a fuller in-game menu;
  • reworked server selection, connection recovery and queue display, and in-app updates;
  • the full library of owned games, and improved game shortcuts on the HOME menu;
  • eight interface languages, French included.
The presets range from 720p at 30 frames per second (8 Mbit/s) to 1080p at 60 frames per second (20 Mbit/s).

Installation

Copy the archive's switch folder to the root of the SD card, then start the Homebrew Menu in application mode by holding R while launching an installed game. You need a Switch running Atmosphère.

A word of caution: SwitchNOW can keep your NVIDIA password on the SD card, encrypted, but the auto-login profiles for games are stored there in plain text. Only download it from its official repository.
