PS5 14.20: should you update if you want a jailbreak?
Sony released PS5 firmware 14.20 on 21 October. Its notes say almost nothing, and no public jailbreak works beyond 13.60.
A quiet update
Firmware 26.07-14.20.00 came out on 21 October 2026, for the PS5 and the PS5 Pro. Sony's official page sums it up in one line: improved messages and usability on some screens. As always, Sony does not detail its security fixes: nobody knows what 14.20 closes.
Where does the jailbreak stand?
Should you install 14.20?

Where does the jailbreak stand?
- the public jailbreak, Relapse, works from firmware 7.00 to 13.60;
- firmware 14.00 fixed the 13.xx kernel flaw, and the press links the 14.10 fixes to the known methods;
- on 19 October, Gezine showed a flaw on 14.10, which stays private: nobody knows whether it survives 14.20;
- on 22 October, developer kuzibelit reported on X a reproducible kernel panic on 14.10. It is a research lead, not an exploitable flaw.
Should you install 14.20?
- console on 13.60 or lower: install nothing. An update cannot be uninstalled, and Sony does not let you go back;
- console on 14.00 or 14.10: if you are hoping for a flaw like Gezine's, stay where you are. But PSN reportedly already requires 14.10, according to several sites;
- you play online: 14.20 will be required sooner or later, like the previous ones.
