Switch Frame Tap: your Switch on PC in 1080p, no capture card needed

By Tgames · · 2 min read

Switch Frame Tap sends the video and audio of a Switch running Atmosphère to a PC, over USB or the network, at up to 1080p and 60 fps, without a capture card.

What it is

Switch Frame Tap is a system module (sysmodule) for Atmosphère, along with a viewer for Windows, Linux and macOS. It grabs the game’s picture and compresses it with thehardware H.264 encoder of the console, then sends it to the PC. Version 0.7.13 came out on 16 October 2026, followed by a 0.7.13.1 bugfix release and a 0.7.14 beta on the 18th.

What it can do
  • Up to 1920×1080 to 60 fps, at the game’s resolution, with sound.
  • Over USB-C in handheld mode, or over Wi-Fi and wired network when docked.
  • Latency of about 45 ms in 720p and 60 ms in 1080p, according to the project.
  • One-button MP4 recording, and screenshots at native resolution.
  • A webcam mode: the Switch shows up as a USB camera in OBS, Discord or Zoom.
  • Optional upscaling by the PC’s GPU: AMD FSR 1, NVIDIA NIS or RTX Video Super Resolution.
The 0.7.14 beta also streams the HOME menu and system screens (optional), and adds an Android and Android TV app.

What you need
  • A Switch running Atmosphère, firmware 21 to 23 (tested on 22.5.0; users are running it on 23.0.0 and 23.0.1).
  • A PC running Windows 10 or 11, Linux, or macOS 12 or later.
  • A USB-C cable, or the console and the PC on the same network. Over USB, only handheld mode works (the dock takes up the port), and 1080p requires the ReverseNX-RT module; over the network while docked, 1080p works out of the box.
The module starts about thirty seconds after the console, once the HOME menu is shown, so as not to take memory away from the system during boot. To update Atmosphère, see our news on Atmosphère 1.12.1. It joins the other modules in our selection of Switch homebrew, such as MissionControl.
