PS5 14.10: PSN reportedly locked out on 14.00 consoles, jailbreak stuck
2026 update: developer Gezine has shown a PS5 on 14.10 with a new kernel exploit, which stays private; read on in our news story PS5 jailbreak on 14.10: Gezine shows an exploit that stays private.
According to several specialist sites, PSN now requires PS5 firmware 14.10: a console left on 14.00 loses online play and the PlayStation Store.
What is being reported
Sony released firmware 26.06-14.10.00 on October 1, 2026. Its release notes only mention security, performance and stability. But since the middle of the month, the specialist press (Notebookcheck, Unwire, Gaming Bible, picked up by Gadget Review) has been reporting that consoles still on 14.00 are denied access to PSN until they install 14.10:
What about the jailbreak?
The current jailbreak, Relapse, works from firmware 7.00 to 13.60. Byepervisor Reborn also targets 13.60. Firmware 14.00, released in mid-September, had already closed the door, and the press links the fixes in 14.10 to these two methods. There is no going back: once 14.10 is installed, the console cannot return to an exploitable firmware.
So the choice becomes binary:
Our advice
If your console is jailbreakable, turn off automatic updates and do not accept any update offered by a game or a disc. Many people keep one PS5 on 13.60 for homebrew and another one, or a PC, for online play. To find out what your firmware allows, see our PS5 jailbreak guide.
