PS5 jailbreak: Byepervisor Reborn breaks the hypervisor on 13.60, what about 14.00?
2026 update: firmware 14.10 would become mandatory for PSN, forcing a choice between jailbreak and online play; read on in our news story PS5 14.10: PSN reportedly locked out on 14.00 consoles, jailbreak stuck.
Byepervisor Reborn, released on 12 October 2026, opens up the hypervisor of PS5 consoles on 13.20 and 13.60. It is not a HEN yet, and 14.00 is not affected.
The hypervisor, the PS5’s last lock
On PS5, gaining kernel access is not enough: a hypervisor monitors the system, and XOM protection prevents reading or modifying the kernel code. This is what still limits PS5 consoles running Relapse. The first Byepervisor, in 2024, stopped at firmwares 1.xx and 2.xx. Byepervisor Reborn, released by the PS5Dev organisation on 12 October 2026, targets much more recent consoles.
How the exploit works
The flaw lies in waking from rest mode. When restarting the processor cores, the hypervisor applies a memory configuration to them that is not secured. The program takes advantage of this to read and write the hypervisor’s memory, then disables XOM: the kernel can then be dumped and modified. As proof, a notification displays the first eight bytes of the kernel code. The flaw was first found by theflow0, then explored further by other researchers, “with the help of LLMs” according to the project. A detailed technical write-up was published the same day.
Which firmwares?
Who is it for, right now?
For developers. The README says it clearly: Byepervisor Reborn provides no patches; it is neither a HEN nor a custom firmware. It is launched after the kernel exploit, through the elfldr loader, and requires keeping the USB ports powered in rest mode (“Always” setting in the power saving options). If the console turns off on waking, the exploit has failed. EchoStretch, the author of kstuff, has already released a variant that puts the console into rest mode automatically.
Yet this is the missing building block: with the hypervisor open, tools like etaHEN will be able to go further on recent firmwares.
What if my PS5 is on 14.00 or 14.10?
There is nothing to do for now: no jailbreak exists for these versions, and sites promising a “14.10 jailbreak” are scams. If your console is still on 13.60 or lower, do not update it. The dilemma is real with GTA 6, which we cover in detail in our article on firmware 14.10. To find out where your console stands, read our PS5 jailbreak tutorial.

Which firmwares?
- 13.60 and 13.20: supported.
- 13.00: planned, but not yet tested.
- 6.xx to 13.xx: the flaw appears to be present, but these versions are not supported.
- 14.00 and 14.10: the project believes the flaw “could” work there with modifications, but a kernel exploit is needed first, and none is public for 14.xx firmwares.
