xeRAbora: RetroAchievements on a real PS2

By Tgames · · 1 min read

RetroAchievements are coming to a real PlayStation 2: xeRAbora, a modified version of Open PS2 Loader, tracks your play sessions and unlocks achievements.

How it works

xeRAbora, by hacan359, is in alpha (version 0.1.0-alpha.16 from 8 October 2026). It is made up of two parts:
  • on the console, a modified version ofOpen PS2 Loader (OPL-RA.ELF) that sends the game's memory over the network;
  • on a PC (Windows, Linux, macOS) or an Android phone, a client that checks achievements with the official RetroAchievements library, and can display them on the PS2's screen.

What you need
  • A PS2 with a network adapter, able to run OPL (FreeMcBoot, FreeHDBoot…): see hacking your PS2 in 2026.
  • Your games as ISOs on a USB stick, internal hard drive or MMCE card, or the original disc. PS1 games go through POPStarter.
  • A RetroAchievements account, and UDP port 18194 open on the PC.

Good to know

This is a personal project, not an official RetroAchievements tool, and it is still in alpha: expect bugs. But it is a first: until now, PS2 RetroAchievements only existed in emulators.
