ProsperoEden: a Switch emulator runs natively on a jailbroken PS5

By Tgames · · 2 min read

A jailbroken PS5 can now run Switch games: ProsperoEden, a port of the Eden emulator, runs natively on the console, without going through Linux.

What it is

Eden is one of the Switch emulators that grew out of Yuzu after it shut down in 2024. A developer going by the name blackbearreloaded has adapted it to the PS5 system: the emulator is launched as a homebrew program, directly on Sony's system, and makes use of the console's GPU through Vulkan (OpenGL remains available as a fallback).

The first public version was released on 30 September 2026. Updates have followed in quick succession since then: six versions in five days, up to the 1.000.070 of 4 October, still flagged as a pre-release.

What works
  • The DualSense controller, saves, and a per-game choice between handheld and TV mode.
  • Upscaling with FSR, and output at 120 Hz since version 1.000.040.
  • According to player reports picked up by the press, Cuphead and Hollow Knight run at 60 frames per second, Metroid Dread at between 40 and 50. These are user measurements, not official figures.

What you need to know before getting carried away
  • You need a PS5 that is already jailbroken, with a payload loader listening. The release notes mention tests on firmware 4.50, 6.02, 12.70 and 13.60, which matches the range opened up by the Relapse exploit and the older exploits. A console on 14.00 or later is not affected.
  • This is an alpha version: the author himself warns of a risk of kernel panic during the privilege escalation step. The console reboots, without any damage, but you should expect it.
  • Nothing is provided: no keys, no firmware, no games. Like any Switch emulator, it requires files dumped from your own Switch. This is precisely the point Nintendo has been attacking for two years.

Why we are not providing a link

Our position on Switch emulation has not changed: as long as Nintendo goes after the projects that distribute it, we report on it without distributing it. The background is in our article Switch emulation leaves GitHub. And to find out whether your PS5 can be jailbroken, everything is in our tutorial PS5 jailbreak: which firmware, and what really works.
