Pimp My Wii by @Attila from Wii info is a homebrew that allows you to hack your Wii.
It will detect missing or outdated IOS and offer to install them.
As with any hacking tool, it is recommended to document yourself a bit before making any modifications to your console.
[tabs:3.01]- Addition of the use of IOS/Titles from Nand in addition to wad on sd/usb and from Nintendo's server.
So on Wii U, it is no longer mandatory to have the wad files.
However, you must have exactly the requested version and the nand file must be unmodified.

- Correction of IOS selection request and non-scan of IOS in the "Run test" menu.
- Correction of cMIOS installation.
- Correction of the source IOS list for cIOS d2x on Wii.

- On Wii U, when selecting an IOS, 249 is no longer chosen by default since cIOS d2x does not patch error -1017 on Wii U. IOS 36 (modified) will therefore be preferable.

- Addition of (initial) support for Wii U Wii mode. In this mode for now you can do a test, install or uninstall a wad, export information or install a cIOS (d2x v10) only.
- Update of cIOS d2x to v10 and v10 alt. The alt version is marked as v10.1.
- Modification of all tests, ios and channels to correspond to Wii U.
- Addition of an anti-brick Wii and Wii U, to prevent installing an IOS intended for one on the other. This protection is in place in the "wad" menu as well as during IOS installation in the other menus.
- On Wii U: IOS download is not possible. You must put the wad files on your SD card or USB key. You can create WAD files thanks to FSToolboxx and Showmiiwads-mod by Orwel. The created files must be named in the form IOSXY-64-v1337.wad.
- Addition of protection in "wad" mode which prevents installation of a stub on the slot used by the system menu, or the uninstallation of this ios.
- Correction of wad uninstallation without cIOS.

but I don't see the connection to the Olympics either
