Image unavailable (removed by its host) It's not a party for Sony, firmware 6.39 has barely been released, and now a downgrader and especially a Custom Firmware appear online. Too fast, too easy some will say, as if Sony no longer patched the holes. Anyway, Neur0n offers us tonight the Custom Firmware 6.39 ME-9.8. Note, this Custom Firmware is only for Psp 1000 and 2000 flashable up to datecode 8B. As with any software that touches the Psp's flash 0, there are risks of bricking.
Tgames and the program designers cannot be held responsible in case of bricking (all installation or update should be done with a full battery or on mains power, do not turn off the Psp during installation, etc...) To be able to run 6.39 ME-9.8, you need to be on a Custom firmware or Hen. If you are on: 5.00M33 » It works!

Support for reading module packets How to install it? First install a Custom Firmware on your Psp. 1. Copy the UPDATE folder into ms0:/PSP/GAME/.
2. Put the official 6.39 update in ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE and rename it to 639.PBP
3. Launch the installer from the XMB Good to know:
If you hold down the R trigger while starting your Psp, you get access to the recovery Menu.
To boot into Official firmware, press Home The French translation of the Recovery Menu is available in the translate folder.
Please place the fr_recovery.txt file in the seplugins folder.

Actually, there's a protection on these firmwares, impossible to upgrade so an error message ( basically the protection is that in version.txt, they put Psp version 9.90 so it's not possible You need to modify the version.txt file or grab a version.txt from another firmware with new psar dumper.

There's another way with recovery flasher, with fake installer, with the xgen 5.50 updater.

i installed it before going to bed.

At first glance a few options are missing but it's nothing serious:
- skip boot game (really a shame)
- shortcut to the recovery menu in the VSH menu (no big deal

)
- no "bring me a beer" button ( that's unacceptable

)

I played a bit at lunch, I had a big freeze

the sound kept going, the home button was working but nothing else. Had to quit the game

Hence a question: what's the most efficient/compatible UMD driver?

I'm testing it for fun, as long as it doesn't act up I'll stick with it until a big changelog from another firmware. between ME and PRO honestly it's hard to choose they're both so good. I'd just say:
1 + for ME as a permanent
1 + for PRO for the hide bootgame and other small extra options

by the way the fix for hiding the psp's bootscreen after a VSH reset doesn't work great
