This tutorial will need to be rewritten, so that as many people as possible benefit from it right away it is posted in advance...
Thank you for your understanding.
INFORMATION FROM 07/08/2014:
Nintendo recently modified their servers to only allow access from firmware 5.1.1.
You can no longer play online or use Wii U applications requiring online to function.
But the DevKit exploit can be kept and used (with the Wii U's Internet browser, the entire web is accessible). Stay on 5.0/5.1.0 if you want to enjoy homebrew, and hope to be able to authorize backups when it becomes possible!!
Note: This solution also blocks updates to firmware 5.1.1.
But may not work if you update to new versions. If you are on 4.X, 5.0/5.1, this solution will block ALL updates.
Here is a simple solution to propose to you if you wish to continue to stay on 5.0/5.1 without having to go to 5.1.1 (firmware which blocks the WebKit vulnerability)
Note: For those in the know, we will set up a Proxy, it's the simplest solution that exists.
This solution:
- Blocks all automatic updates
- Only requires a Windows 7 PC, that's all (no router to configure).
- Allows you to play online without updating (tested on Mario Kart 8)NINTENDO RECENTLY MODIFIED THEIR SERVERS TO ONLY ALLOW ACCESS FROM FIRMWARE 5.1.1 (07/08/2014).
We need to spoof our firmware to make the servers believe we are updated.
- Allows you to preserve the WebKit vulnerability.
Prerequisites:
- The same Wifi access on your PC and the Wii U (but above all do not leave the Wii U on before the procedure -> otherwise automatic update)
- Always leave your computer on to make the solution work (if the PC is not on the Wii U will not connect to the internet).
- Download and install CCProxy v8.0 (https://www.youngzsoft.net/ccproxy/proxy-server-download.htm)
in the filter. It will block everything without having to write it all out.
Click on "Save" then "Accept".
You return here:
Image unavailable (removed by its host)
Click on "New"
Image unavailable (removed by its host)
Set it the same and fill in the MAC address with that of your Wii U (you get it in the internet settings on the console).
Example: 3rejh111d004 (all together!)
Click on "Save" then "Accept" then again "Accept".
Now the PC solution is ok.
We're going to use it on the Wii U...
II] Configuration on Wii U
Go to "console settings" then to "Internet" then "Internet Connection".
Press X, select the same connection as your PC.
Go to page 3, click on "Proxy server"
Set to yes and enter the IP address given on the 2nd photo, and port 808.
Note: As a reminder in our example we had it (see photo below), so as address: 192.168.1.75.
Image unavailable (removed by its host)
There your Wii U is protected (normally) from updates
Since early June my WiiU was disconnected to prevent updates...
Now I can finally get back to Rayman Legend and consider Mario Kart
For info, big scare: during the setup of the WiiU/Proxy connection, the console detected an update during the config and downloaded it (700 and something Mb) I turned it off before the update installed. On reboot, it (the update) wanted to install, I got an error screen with my WiiU's version etc, then "reset your console" and since then no more detection nor installation of updates
Thanks and
Edit I spoke too soon: the error code 162-0025 offering the update showed up again
"Information about this error:
1: 4.1.0E
2: WUP-101 (03)
3: FEF 10003915
4: HAS7-021X-X302"
Any idea???
Bonjour,
1: 4.1.0E
2: WUP-101 (03)
3: FEF 10003915
4: HAS7-021X-X302"
For my part it blocks everything well, the update won't download (always an error).
Small update:
- Online gaming works
- Miiverse works - Wii U Shop no longer works - Internet applications and others work
Edit1: Address update, to block even more places asking for updates!
INFORMATION
If you made a mistake somewhere, and an update goes through (normally it's impossible if you followed my tutorial correctly).
When the WiiU asks to install the update ("The update is ready to install" and you have the "OK" button).
1) Above all don't click "OK"!!!
2) Hold down the "POWER" button for 5 seconds
3) Restart the console while holding down "B" on the GamePad then go back to the WiiU Menu (via the WiiU channel)
4) Your WiiU won't install the update anymore, not even if you wait or restart it. This last one will no longer be among the tasks to install.
Always test via the Wii U's web browser (or by testing on PC with the PC's MAC address) that the addresses are really blocked, before staying online!!
With this little .txt file, no more update offered, no more error...
Certainly due to a bad Proxy config on WiiU
Tgames 1/ Nintendo 0
Thanks a lot
Yes it must be a mistake in setting it up on your end.
I did the test with a few people it works perfectly, my solution for now.
On the other hand yes it does work, but nothing stops Nintendo one day from blocking online gaming access on lower firmware... But in any case all the updates (via internet) are blocked.
Thanks a lot for this tutorial however I've unfortunately already done the 5.1.1 update, I wanted to know, will this tutorial also work for future updates or is it just to block the 5.1.1 one?
I also wanted to know, I no longer have access to the eshop which is normal from what you said but if I want to access it, can I do so by removing the proxy?
Now that I'm on 5.1.1, will I never be able to access the Wii U hack again?
Thanks a lot.
PS: for this to work, do I need to leave the CCProxy software open to get onto my Wii U or can I now turn off my computer and connect to my Wii U?

Yes the update blocking also works on 5.1.1. (not sure it'll still work on a future firmware).
Yes you need to cut the proxy on the WiiU by setting "no" in the console's Internet settings to access the eshop. But careful you'll be unprotected against future updates.
The advantage for now is that you can play online (and keep the exploit if you're on 5.1.0) without going through an automatic update.
Unfortunately for the hack you'll have to wait for another User exploit (and that's not even sure another one will be found any time soon). That's why I quickly made this tutorial so most people avoid the update. Because a kernel exploit (undisclosed) has been found and is exploitable, with a bit more work we'll be able to do interesting things...
Regards.

Thanks a lot for your responsiveness, so if I understood correctly I'm a bit screwed for the hack, isn't there some trick to downgrade a Wii U?
You're talking about a hack that's going to arrive soon, will it be on the same level as the Wii, meaning with the ability to download games and launch them from a hard drive like on the Wii?
Thanks

Ok thanks because I'm a bit bummed to be missing out on such a hack, already with my 3DS which is on 5.0 I can't take advantage of the linkers so if on the Wii U I can't either, I'll be really disappointed.
There's one last thing I didn't quite understand, earlier the Wii U didn't give me a choice, the update happened automatically, is that normal? shouldn't it normally ask us if we agree to do it?
PS: at the next update (for example 5.2.0) thanks to your tutorial, the Wii U won't find the update? how's that going to work, will it find it but not be able to do it?
Thanks a lot for your help ^^

No, if you haven't set up a proxy (with my solution), the updates happen automatically (download + launching the installation).
It's Nintendo's new policy with the Wii U, you can't refuse updates, the answer is always forced to be yes ('OK').
It will find the update, but will get stuck when trying to download it. So the update will never happen .
That block will be invisible to you, it's as if Nintendo no longer offers updates.

Hi, it's me again ^^
I have a small problem, I did set the proxy like you said, except mine is 192.168.1.72 (that's my IP address), I assume yours that you put (192.168.1.75) is your IP address and I did set the port to 808.
And when I do it that way it doesn't work, but as soon as I set the proxy to no it works again, do you know why?
I thought maybe I had to leave the computer on with the software running but I don't know if that's it.
Thanks in advance.
