Quick little tuto done on a 9box NB4 and windows XP.

Let's start with the easiest... plugging your external hard drive into your Box.

There are 2 USB ports... what do I do???

Eeny meeny miny moe, it'll be you! There, that's done. Now you need to go to the box's menu to enable sharing. Nothing simpler, it's here -> https://192.168.1.1/5_1 for other boxes try and dig around here -> https://192.168.1.1/ or here -> https://192.168.0.1/

So:

Enable it if not already done.
Change the default port (21) to 8080 for example.
set the max number of users as you wish.
Allow anonymous access for more simplicity.
Confirm.

Now, go to your desktop to right-click on the "Network Places" icon Image unavailable (removed by its host) then in the context menu, click on "Map Network Drive".
If this icon isn't on your desktop, right-click on the desktop then properties. In the "Desktop" tab click on "Customize Desktop...". Check "Network Places" then click "ok" and "ok" again.

Click the link "Open an online storage session or connect to a network server".

Click "next".

Click on "Choose another network location" then "Next".

As in the image above we're going to enter the address of the HDD connected to the Box. That is:

Code: Select all

https://192.168.1.1:8080/sda/sda1/  pour accèder à la partition 1 ou
https://192.168.1.1:8080/sda/sda2/  pour accéder à la partition 2, etc...

Then click "Next"

Enter a name for your access to the HDD then click "Next".

There you go, all that's left is to click "Finish" to see the treasure open up...

Now you'll be able to access it easily both for reading and writing via the "Network Places" icon. Image unavailable (removed by its host)

Well if you have something better and simpler to access the box's HDD just like you do on the HDDs that are in your "my computer", I'm interested.

No you can't you need a print server

Neufbox and sfrbox have a function to plug in a printer and share it over the network. Never tested it but I think it's simpler and even identical to my tuto for file sharing.
