OGBox: original Xbox games on jailbroken PS5

By Tgames · · 2 min read

OGBox ports hakuX, an emulator for the original Xbox, to jailbroken PS5: the games' code runs natively on the processor, with no BIOS to provide.

The original Xbox on PS5

On 3 November 2026, Press5elect released OGBox 0.0.1, then 0.0.2 the next day. It is an unofficial port of hakuX, an emulator for the 2001 Xbox designed for Android, as homebrew for jailbroken PS5 (title PPSA99251).
What sets it apart: both consoles use an x86 processor. The x86 code of Xbox games therefore runs directly on the PS5's processor, in compatibility mode, while the Xbox kernel is reimplemented and the graphics processor is emulated with Vulkan. Like hakuX, OGBox needs neither the BIOS nor the MCPX ROM of the console.

What OGBox offers
  • games in XISO (.iso,.xiso) or CHD, on internal storage, a USB drive, extended storage or an SMB or NFS network share;
  • rendering at up to 6 times the original resolution, with FXAA, SMAA or SSAA;
  • save states (10 slots), per-game settings, patches (16:9, 60 fps), cheats and a manager for the emulated Xbox hard drive;
  • support for system link over a local network or via XLink Kai, and for Xbox Live via Insignia, the service that brings it back to life;
  • version 0.0.2 fixes crashes on exit and games stuck at 2-6 fps or in their menus, and adds a 60 fps test mod for BLACK.

Highly experimental

The author warns: some games boot and are playable, many do not launch, or stop, slow down or lose picture or sound along the way. Expect crashes. OGBox provides no games, BIOS or keys: use copies of your own discs, made by yourself, for example with our original Xbox ISO guide.

Caution

Press5elect's GitHub account is only a month old. The release is a zip, along with its SHA-256 hash and the source code, under the GPL license like hakuX: check the hash, and only get OGBox from its repository, since the author states that it is free. This is not an official hakuX release: issues should be reported to OGBox. On PC, xemu remains the reference for the original Xbox.
