Mario Kart World on Switch 1: a demo, nothing released

By Tgames · · 2 min read

A video shows Mario Kart World, a Switch 2 exclusive, on a modded Switch 1. It is a private demo: nothing is released, and nothing proves it yet.

What the video shows

On 31 October 2026, user touhoufagyuri posted on X a video of Mario Kart World, the Switch 2 launch game, presented as running on a Switch 1: "test on Switch 1 (levels of detail forced to the lowest, reduced rendering, in TV mode)". The author speaks of smooth visuals, but admits that some things are not properly supported.
According to GBAtemp, which followed their posts:
  • the console is said to be overclocked and used on the dock;
  • a large part of the open world (the Free Roam mode) had to be removed;
  • the picture stutters at times, and bugs remain visible, such as being unable to drive properly on water;
  • the author also showed Pokémon Pokopia, another Switch 2 game, capped at 30 fps in 720p;
  • the work was reportedly done largely with the AI DeepSeek.

Nothing to download

The author says they have no plans to release it and does not want to share the code in its current state. The videos are direct captures: nothing guarantees they really come from a Switch 1. Any "Switch 1 version of Mario Kart World" offered for download is therefore a fake, at best a scam, at worst malware. Beware of fake tools published on GitHub.

How this became possible

This kind of experiment stems from the Switch 2 jailbreak: ns2jb lets you dump games from your own console, without giving access to the keys or the system. Since then, experimental ports have appeared, with tools such as nxnative or modified emulators, which already boot Pokopia and other Switch 2 games. Such a port would necessarily start from the game dumped from your own cartridge: downloading the game elsewhere is still piracy.

Our advice

It is a spectacular proof of concept, but not a reason to buy a Switch 1 or to mod one: the game is cut down, nothing is released, and the Switch 2 remains the only way to play Mario Kart World. We will follow what happens next if any code appears. Questions belong in the Switch & Wii U Questions/Help.
