PS5 firmware 14.22: should you update?
Sony has released PS5 firmware 14.22 eleven days after 14.20, listing only security fixes. Here is what it means for the jailbreak.
A security update, and nothing else
Version 26.07-14.22.00 of the PS5 and PS5 Pro system software came out on 2 November. Sony's official page contains a single line: security fixes have been made to the system software. No new features, no details on the vulnerabilities fixed. It arrives eleven days after firmware 14.20, released on 21 October, which only touched up a few screens.
Why now?
Shortly after 14.20 came out, researcher kuzibelit claimed on X to have obtained a userland entry point on this firmware: a remote Lua loader running code, with an FTP server. It is not a full jailbreak, and nothing has been released or independently verified. Sony does not say whether 14.22 targets this vulnerability. The other context is of course GTA 6, expected on 19 November, which is pushing many players to update their consoles.
Where the jailbreak stands
Should you update?
If your console is on 13.60 or lower and you want to keep the jailbreak, do not update: disable automatic updates and be wary of recent games that require a higher firmware (read our article on GTA 6). If you are on 14.20 and hoping for an exploit, staying on that firmware is the only way to keep a chance. Otherwise, the update is safe and recommended for playing online.

Where the jailbreak stands
- The public jailbreak, Relapse, stops at firmware 13.60.
- Firmwares 14.00, 14.10 and 14.20 have no public full jailbreak; Prolapse, on 14.10, was patched as early as 14.20.
- 14.22 changes nothing for those already past 13.60, except perhaps closing off the 14.20 lead.
