ARMSX3 1.5: PS3 on Android moves to the new RSX

By Tgames · · 2 min read

ARMSX3, the PS3 emulator for Android, ships six versions in one week: Batman Arkham Origins online, Skylanders figures and a new graphics engine.

Six versions from October 25 to 31

ARMSX3 is the Android adaptation of RPCS3, the leading PS3 emulator on PC (GPL-2.0 license). Since version 1.1, it has come a long way: version 1.4 came out on October 25, version 1.5 on the 29th and version 1.5.2 on the 31st. According to its authors, it has passed 50,000 downloads on Google Play.

1.5: the RSX rewritten by kd-11

The RSX is the PS3's graphics chip. kd-11 spent about two years rewriting its emulation in RPCS3: 88 changes and more than 13,000 lines of code, merged this week. ARMSX3 1.5 already runs on it.
  • An OpenGL renderer makes its debut, on the phone's driver or on ANGLE, useful with some Mali chips. Vulkan remains the recommended choice.
  • WET boots and is playable; the built-in game patches (Ratchet & Clank, Burnout Paradise, Skylanders…) are enabled for everyone.
  • Warning: save states from 1.4 no longer load. Make a regular in-game save before updating.
Version 1.5.1 fixes God of War Collection, broken by this change, and 1.5.2 makes Far Cry 3 load reliably, makes South Park: The Stick of Truth playable in OpenGL on Adreno and moves to FFmpeg 8.1.1, faster for videos.

1.4: online play, figures and microphone
  • Batman: Arkham Origins gets its multiplayer back thanks to the Arkham: Revived community servers, on the RPCN network. You need the game's 1.06 update and an RPCN account; you will only meet RPCN players.
  • Figure portals emulated for Skylanders, Disney Infinity and LEGO Dimensions.
  • Microphone for SingStar, Rock Band and Guitar Hero.
In between, 1.4.1 reduces stuttering in Skyrim and 1.4.2 stops Metal Gear Solid 4 from freezing at the start of Act 1.

As with RPCS3, you need the PS3 firmware, downloaded from Sony's website, and your own games. The method is the same as in our RPCS3 tutorial.
