suyu is back: the Switch emulator recompiles games natively for PC
2026 update: recompiling Switch games for PC goes on, with Pokémon: Let’s Go; read on in our news story Pokémon: Let’s Go recompiled for PC: native and in 4K, no emulator.
suyu’s archived repository has been taken over by a new team: version 0.0.14 of the Switch emulator recompiles games into native PC programs.
A takeover, not a return of the original team
suyu was born in 2024 from yuzu, after the latter shut down in the face of Nintendo; its development then stopped and its repository was archived. A new team has picked it up where it left off, under the same name. The code is now based on Eden, another descendant of yuzu. These are not the original developers: the work revolves around mk8-recomp, a recompilation project for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Two versions came out in quick succession: 0.0.13 on 9 October 2026 and 0.0.14 on the 10th.
Emulate or recompile
suyu offers two ways to play:
What’s new
Good to know
No games, keys or firmware are provided, nor copied into exports: you need the keys and the game dumped from your own Switch. Recompilation remains experimental, and the team is already announcing “v14.0.1” numbering, not yet released. The legal context remains tense: read our overview of Switch emulation versus Nintendo. And for the Switch on a jailbroken PS5, see ProsperoEden.

Emulate or recompile
suyu offers two ways to play:
- classic emulation, like other Switch emulators;
- static recompilation: the game’s ARM code is translated ahead of time into an x86-64 PC program. The Export Game menu creates a standalone package which, on Windows, can be added straight to Steam. A “hybrid” variant leaves to the classic engine whatever recompilation cannot yet handle.
What’s new
- 0.0.13: exports no longer copy the game; they read it again at each launch with your keys. An optional “portable” export bundles the game, its update and its DLC, but it is locked to the console the keys come from; keys from another console are rejected.
- Code mods (.ips,.pchtxt), including frame rate patches, are built into static exports.
- On Ryzen X3D chips, games run on the cores with the most cache: about a 40% gain on a Tears of the Kingdom export, on a Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
- 0.0.14: fixes for crashes at startup and during export, and an AppImage build for Linux (Ubuntu 24.04).
