Azahar 2126.1: the 3DS emulator goes up to 8K
2026 update: Azahar 2127.0 finally makes the emulator fast on iPhone, without JIT; the follow-up is in our news story Azahar 2127.0: the 3DS emulator finally becomes fast on iPhone, without JIT.
The 3DS emulator Azahar moves to version 2126.1: internal resolution up to ×18, or 8K, less audio stuttering, and an important change for save states.
Azahar, a reminder
Azahar is now the sole successor to Citra, the 3DS emulator shut down in 2024 at the same time as Yuzu. The two projects that had taken over, PabloMK7's fork and Lime3DS, merged into one under this name. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android, and is also available as a RetroArch core.
What changes with 2126.1
Released on 9 September 2026, this version brings:
Two patches since
How to get it
Azahar can be downloaded from its official site and its GitHub page. Beware of sites still using the Citra name: the project has been discontinued, and they are often dubious copies. As with any emulator, games and system files must come from your own 3DS: our tutorial installing Luma3DS with MSET9 lets you dump them with GodMode9.
Our recommended settings are in the tutorials Emulation on PC and Emulation on Android.

What changes with 2126.1
Released on 9 September 2026, this version brings:
- Internal resolution up to ×18 (up from ×10 previously), enough to feed an 8K screen. On a standard screen, ×3 to ×5 is more than enough.
- Save states tied to the version: a state created with one version of Azahar can no longer be loaded with another. This is the point to remember before updating mid-game: make a normal in-game save, which carries over from one version to the next without any problem.
- Faster processing of graphics commands, by half a millisecond to a millisecond per frame.
- Fixes for audio crackling, and for a crash in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
Two patches since
- 2126.1.1 (11 September): fixes crashes in the Vulkan renderer on graphics cards that handle it poorly, and disables by default a duplicate frame skipping option that was causing regressions.
- 2126.1.2 (20 September): fixes RetroArch hanging when exiting a game with the Azahar core.
