Switch and Switch 2: a "userland" exploit that works offline
2026 update: since then, the Switch 2 has had its first real jailbreak: ns2jb runs native code on firmware 23.0.1; the full story is in our news story First Switch 2 jailbreak: ns2jb runs through SmileBASIC on 23.0.1.
Developer Gezine, already known on the PlayStation scene, presented in July 2026 a new exploit in userland mode that affects both the Switch and the Switch 2.
What changes
Existing entry points relied on the browser (WebKit) or modified saves, which had to be transferred via Nintendo's online service, thus requiring the console to be updated. Gezine's method uses neither the browser, nor a save, nor the Internet: it works offline and bypasses the ARM PAC protection added to the Switch 2's browser engine. It would be compatible with all system versions.
What it doesn't change (yet)
This is limited access to an application's sandbox: it's not a custom firmware, nor full system access. It is, however, an interesting foundation for backup tools, emulators or other unofficial software on Switch 2, pending a possible deeper vulnerability.
As always: don't update your consoles casually, and follow the news on the forum.
