[OUTDATED] Fixed Ret - 1029 error in Wad Manager

The -1029 error can sometimes occur and prevent installation. Here's how to fix it.


1st Solution - Use Yet Another Wad Manager to install your .wad files

Oh yes, quite simply.. Because since the r21 , it fixes the error automatically.

2nd Solution - Patch your .wad file to fix the error

/!\ You're about to modify a Wad file, you are responsible for any modification that could cause your Wii to brick.

This way, you'll be able to install your .wad with any wad installer. For this, you need:

- A Hexadecimal editor, for my tuto I'll use Translhextion , which is simple .
- Software letting you pack/unpack a wad file, I use WadMii from the pack Wii.cs Tool. Alright, now that we have everything we need, let's get started .

1. Download the pack and unzip it into an easily accessible folder ( Example: the desktop . Then place the .wad with the Ret - 1029 error in it, so as not to get too confused.
2. Launch WadMii, check the Unpack box, then next to the 2 dots after "File", go find your Corrupted Wad. Then click Unpack. Don't close the program for practical reasons .

A new folder with the name of your .wad appears with several files, notably the file we need for the next step: a file ending in .tik.

3. Open it with your Hexadecimal Editor = Translhextion -> File -> Open, go find your .tik file and click Open. You'll come across 3 columns, a black one on the left, in the middle red & blue and on the right again black, but wider. We won't worry about the left column. Let's start by spotting a "<" ( without the quotation marks ) in the right column. Once found, click on it. You'll select at the same time a "3C" ( without the quotation marks ) in the middle column, or something else. Check at the bottom of the application that you're indeed at an Offset XXX=0x1F1 ( XXX being a number like 497 , 354 , etc.. ) and that the Bits aren't equal to 00000000.

4. Once you've checked everything, click on the corresponding number in the left column and enter 00 ( zero, zero ). the "<" turns into a dot, and the Bits = 00000000. Do File -> Save and close the program.

5. Back to WadMii, this time check Pack, and click Pack, click Yes & OK. There you go, your .wad is ready to be installed with any Wad installer

L'erreur -1029 peut arriver parfois et empêcher l'installation. Voici comment la corrigé.

Hé oui , tout simplement.. Car depuis la r21 , il corrige l'erreur automatiquement.

2er Solution - Patcher votre fichier .wad pour corriger l'erreur

/!\ Vous vous apprêtez à modifier un fichier Wad , vous étes responsable de toutes modification qui pourrait cosser le brick de votre Wii.

De cette manière , vous pourrez installer votre .wad avec n'importe qu'elle installer de wad. Pour cela , il vous faut :

- Un éditeur Hexadécimal , pour mon tuto j'utiliserais Translhextion , qui est simple .
- Un logiciel vous permettant de packter/unpackter un fichier wad , moi j'utilise WadMii du pack Wii.cs Tool. Bien , maintenant que nous avons tout ce qu'il nous faut , commençons .

1. Télécharger le pack et dé-zipper le dans un dossiers facile d'accès ( Exemple : le bureau . Puis placez-y le .wad ayant l'erreur Ret - 1029 , histoire de ne pas trop s'embrouiller.
2. Lancez WadMii , cochez la case Unpack , puis sur les 2 points après le "File" , allez chercher votre Wad Corrompu. Puis cliquez sur Unpack. Ne fermez pas le programme pour des raisons pratiques .



Un nouveau dossiers portant le nom de votre .wad apparaît avec plusieurs fichier , notamment le fichier dont nous avons besoins pour la suite : un fichier de terminant par .tik.



3. Ouvrez le avec votre Editeur Héxadécimal = Translhextion -> File -> Open , allez chercher votre fichier .tik et faites Ouvrir. Vous tomberez sur 3 colonnes , une noire à gauche , au milieu en rouge & bleu et à droite encore uen fois en noir , mais plus large. Nous n'allons pas nous préoccuper de la colonne de gauche. Commençons par repérer un "<" ( sans les guillemets ) sur la colonne de droite. Une fois trouvé , cliquez dessus. Vous sélectionnerais en même temps un "3C" ( sans les guillemets ) dans la colonne du milieu , ou autre chose. Vérifiez en bas de l'application que vous êtes bien sur une Offset XXX=0x1F1 ( XXX étant un nombre comme 497 , 354 , etc.. ) et que les Bits ne sont pas égal à 00000000.



4. Une fois que vous avez tout vérifiez , cliquez sur le chiffre correspondant dans la colonne de gauche et faites 00 ( zéro , zéro ). le "<" se transforme en un point , et les Bits = 00000000.Faites File -> Save et fermer le programme.



5. Revenons à WadMii , cette fois-ci cocher Pack , et cliquez sur Pack , faites Oui & OK. Voilà , votre .wad est pret à étre installer avec n'importequ'elle installer de Wad

some people would get the -1029 error when installing certain .wad. it would come from the .wad, so to fix this error ==> go into the ticket file and edit it in hexa .

certaines personne aurait l'erreur -1029 lors de l'installation de certains .wad. sa viendrais du .wad , donc pour corriger cette erreur ==> go dans le fichier ticket et le modifier en héxa .

so it's only to apply in case of recurring -1029 error.

restart wad manager, select ios36 then try installing your .wad again

relance wad manager, sélectionne l'ios36 puis réessaye d'installer ton .wad

Or use the latest version of another yet wad manager which fixes it automatically.. I'll redo a proper tuto later..

I chose IOS36 and it did indeed work
But I didn't understand why ^^. Actually I just got my wii, and I'm trying to understand this IOS and cIOS business, but I admit I don't understand much of it! lol
Because here for example, I don't see why we choose IOS36, when there's an IOS70, etc
What do the IOS numbers correspond to? Is it based on the most recent ones?
Yesterday, I installed cIOSX rev 19 because, after seeing it was the most recent, I told myself it could only improve things^^. I think I was on cIOS38 rev 14, but I'm not really sure what that corresponds to.
Anyway so I'm taking advantage of this post to ask these questions, because I don't really know where to ask them

an IOS is official, a cIOS is a modified IOS that allows running unsigned (unofficial) files called homebrews and/or modifying the nand (the wii's memory). Each IOS has a well-defined function without wanting to go into the details. From memory only the IOS linked to the system menu is replaced by another one. IOS30 for system menu 3.2, IOS60 for 4.0 and 4.1 and IOS70 for 4.2.

As a general rule when you hack the wii, you start by downgrading, meaning restoring the exploits of ios15 then 36 in order to install cIOS.

cIOS rev14 is a modified IOS based on ios36 that allows running homebrews as well as modifying the nand.
rev19 increases performance and compatibility for homebrews but at the same time becomes less capable of modifying the nand. For this reason ios36 with the restored exploits is perfect for this kind of task.

So if I understood correctly, I had to use IOS36 to install my .wad because it was the modified IOS, and on which there's an exploit to install homebrews (more or less ^^)
But why do we need to install cIOS 222 v4 to crack the wii?? What role does it play?

And one last question, what exactly are any-title and dop-IOS for? (I followed this tuto: https://blog.apyka.com/index.php/consol ... icielle-4/ )

Donc si j'ai bien compris, il fallait que j'utilise l'IOS36 pour installer mes .wad parce que c'était l'IOS modifier, et sur lequel il y a un faille pour installer les homebrews (plus ou moins ^^)
Mais pourquoi devons-nous installer le cIOS 222 v4 pour cracker la wii?? Quel rôle joue-t-il?

the cios 249, 250, 202, 222, 223, 224 are different and complementary. essential for one and the other (homebrews). and some can run certain games others can't.

you must delete the indicated ios (they are stubs/empty) with any titles deleter in order to reinstall them.

les cios 249, 250, 202, 222, 223, 224 sont différent et complémentaire. indispensable au un et au autre (homebrews). et certain peuvent lancer certain jeux d'autre pas.

tu dois supprimer le ios indiqué (se sont des stubs/vide) avec any titles deleter pour pouvoir les réinstaller.
