My Xbox360 is definitely dead

Hi everyone!

That's it 1 year after its 1st ROD (Error 74), my xbox has just given up.

After a 3 red-light ROD and error 30 (which is actually overheating or too much pressure on the GPU)

Error 73 came right after that (ethernet problem apparently).

This so-called ethernet port error, which nevertheless only appears if a video cable is plugged in (scart or hdmi), means that after 2 days of testing disassembling cleaning, nothing works.

Error 74, I know how to fix that but 73 is a lost cause for me, other than a reflow at 80 euros, I don't see any option.

I could curse microsoft and its taiwanese manufacturing lines.

Well, just in case, if you see a falcon motherboard going around, and especially at a rock-bottom price, my son will be over the moon.

Nice machine this 360, but crappy design....

I wonder if trying the repair like for another type of ROD couldn't save it ...

what repair, it has an anti-rod kit, no xclamp, heatsinks everywhere, even outside the case it's the same, unless I plug the video cable into it, but well if there's no video, I don't see the point

Ugh, that just happened to a buddy of mine. And he was right in the middle of Skyrim too (well I don't know if you were playing Skyrim on Xbox)

Anyway, I hope the slim doesn't have the same issue

Ah indeed, that sucks ... it's true it's already come back from the dead once!

As far as I know the slims don't have the ROD problem.

I just looked at gxmod, E73 would be a GPU problem, at xbox xpert an ethernet problem.

Well I'm going to try one last big overheat and that's it.

I had an xbox with error 73, it was the HDMI connector making a bad contact so I desoldered the video ports then resoldered the wires directly, it works
Image unavailable (removed by its host) well you can't really see it but I resoldered a VGA connector and an RGB connector + a switch to choose between the 2

it's super simple kalidor, there's really nothing complicated about soldering 3 wires (or 10 whatever) personally I feel capable of doing it without any trouble, otherwise worst case ask baordeur if he wants to do it for free, last resort PM me and that's it if you don't want to bother with it!

There's one thing I don't understand, if the hdmi output is affected how does it manage to display error 73 on the screen.

So here I found how to temporarily fix this error...
I need to let the console heat up at the GPU level... about 5-10min...
For that I take off the fans and place them on the dvd drive so that the CPU gets air.... so no 2 red led....
I let it heat up....
I let it cool for 5min then I put the fan back...
I restart it and it works again FOR THE LENGTH OF A SESSION.... unsure.gif
If I turn it off and turn it back on.... HERE WE GO AGAIN crying.gif

EDIT2:
On a cold Start, it works... I let it run 2min on the Dash...
I turn it off.... I wait 10sec
I turn it back on and same thing 1 Red Led + E73...

I think it's linked to my first RROD:0020 error, I probably didn't let it heat up long enough....
Tonight it'll heat up for 1 hour... we'll see who's the Boss... shuriken.gif

So I let it heat up for 1 hour yesterday... (it wasn't super hot either)
I let it cool for 15min and GO.....
It worked really well, I tested 3 re-boots and played fable 2 for 1 hour....
I tested 2 more re-boots afterward and the next day cold... And no Red Led... smile.gif

Conclusion:
I think my error is linked to the GPU and my ROD:0020...
Maybe even to the Vibration created by the DVD Drive....

So in the end I need to put a fan on the GPU radiator and place the Drive elsewhere so it doesn't vibrate on the Motherboard...

EDIT4:
Yesterday I installed a fan on the GPU, took out the drive to put it on the 360,
I installed the magic pins to get 12v for the fans,
And I added a heatsink on the Ethernet chipset....
In the end I played 3 hours of fable2 without a problem,
And this morning it's still running....

I know all these videos as well as the one showing how to block or remove the fan to create an overheat.

Result, 10 minutes later, a proper rod, I plug it back in and E73 is still there.

Between those who advise me the oven, those who advise me the heat gun, those who will tell you resoldering ( 80 euros ), sorry I can't come up with that amount right now, because of moving to actual unemployment 400 € less on my paycheck and an overdraft that would make my banker turn pale.

I'm going to try the last ultimate move tomorrow, then whatever happens happens (overheat, heat gun and oven)

for info, my bobox, has the bolted-on rads, heatsinks on the rams, etc...

Take a towel, wrap your x360 in it for at least 30 minutes, then unwrap it and remove the towel and turn the x360 back on
