Our friend JeGX tackled a monster: the Asus GeForce GTX 580 DirectCU II Platinium. This "graphics card" has a cooler that's thick to say the least, since it takes up three slots in thickness... no more, no less.

It has two 100 mm fans and a thick aluminum heatsink backed by four heat pipes.

On the clock speed side, the GPU is clocked at 816 MHz versus 2002 MHz for the 1.5 GB of GDDR5. It remains to be seen whether it's possible to do better than what Asus offers by default.

Settings: 1920×1080 fullscreen, tessellation: normal, shaders: high, 4X MSAA, 16X anisotropic filtering.

L'ami JeGX s'est attaqué à un monstre : la GeForce GTX 580 DirectCU II Platinium d'Asus. Cette « carte graphique » dispose d'un ventirad pour le moins épais puisqu'il occupe trois emplacements en épaisseur... ni plus ni moins.

On y trouve deux ventilateurs de 100 mm et un épais dissipateur en aluminium épaulé par quatre caloducs.

Du côté des fréquences, le GPU est cadencé à 816 MHz contre 2002 MHz pour les 1.5 Go de GDDR5. Reste à voir s'il n'est pas possible de mieux faire que ce que propose Asus par défaut.

Personally I prefer AMD which offers better perf/noise/price ratio. I'm not saying that to start a debate... each to their own
