Image unavailable (removed by its host)IntroductionIn this tutorial, I'm going to present to you the hack of a PS3 FAT or SLIM fresh by detailing each step so you understand what you're doing. We will also cover the installation of homebrews as well as some technical terms specific to our beloved console.
The Hack
But what is it exactly?
Actually the Hack will allow you to run unsigned code (non-official Sony) on your console.
As a result, you will be able to run several homebrews created by kind developers for the PS3 community.
In these homebrews, you will find notably homebrews that we call Backup MANAGER whose particularity is to run PS3 game backups. For some games, on the console's internal hard drive only, but also for most other games, to run them directly on an external hard drive formatted in FAT32.
Other homebrews exist such as FTP servers or even console emulators etc...
Of course the Hack of PS3 being in full expansion, we will see born in the future many more homebrews.
In this tutorial, we will proceed with the Hack of PS3 with the Custom Firmware 3.55 Kmeaw.
For that, you will have to master a few things, but especially understand what you are doing.
You must for example be able to put your console in Recovery Mode.
Recovery Mode
The mode what? The Recovery Mode is a hidden service of the PS3 that allows you to do some maintenance.
This mode is used when the PS3 system no longer starts correctly. We start this mode to be able to call on several maintenance tools that make up this service, it is possible for example to format the hard drive, reinstall a firmware or even reinstall the file system.
The Recovery Mode will serve us to install this CFW 3.55 because in the "update" menu of the console it would not be possible for us to install it. In fact, in this menu, only firmwares higher can be installed.
The Recovery Mode allows you to bypass this by allowing the installation of an firmware identical.
Let's take the example of any crash on your console. To recover it, you must reinstall a firmware.
If you have the latest firmware in date, without Recovery Mode, it's impossible. You then understand the important usefulness of this mode.
Neither me, nor any other member of the Tgames forum can be held responsible for what you do with your console, zero risk does not exist, everything you will do will be knowingly, take your time, read slowly and very carefully, don't hesitate to reread if you have any doubt.
Do not forget that we are not here to encourage Hack, this tutorial is for informational purposes above all.
I invite you before installing any firmware to try the Recovery Mode (step No. 3b) on your console, because it seems that on some this mode does not exist.
Obviously if for some of you, it's impossible for you to access it, no need to go further in the tutorial.
- A PS3 FAT or SLIM in firmware official maximum 3.55
- A PC
- A USB key in FAT32 of minimum 256 MB (1 GB would be perfect)
- A USB/Mini-USB cable
- The firmware official 3.55 (only if your PS3 has a firmware lower)
- The CFW 3.55 Kmeaw
1) Verification of current firmware
We're going to start by checking what firmware your PS3 is equipped with and for that you're going to go to:
- Once the download is complete, extract the archive and put the PS3 folder at the root of your USB key.
- Start your console and insert your USB key then go to:
- Settings ---> System Update ---> Update via storage media Image unavailable (removed by its host)
Let yourself be guided on screen.
Accept the terms and proceed with the update, your console will restart and proceed with the update.
Once the update is complete, do as step 1 to check if you are indeed in 3.55.
Everything OK? Let's move on to the next step.
3) Installation of CFW Kmeaw
Here is the most important step of this Hack, you will have to put the console in Recovery Mode as I was explaining to you at the beginning of this tutorial.
- Once the download is complete, extract the archive and put the PS3 folder at the root of your USB key, taking care to format it as it should be.
We're going to now put the console in Recovery Mode b) Recovery Mode
- Turn off your console if not already done.
- Then we're going to turn it back on by pressing the POWER button and hold it until the console turns off.
- We do it again, we turn the console back on on the POWER button, without releasing it, until you hear 2 fairly fast beeps. At that moment only can you release the POWER button, your console starts in Recovery Mode.
- Get your USB/Mini-USB cable and connect your controller to your console, then press the PS button.
- Welcome you are now in the Recovery Mode, note 6 choices of tools but the only one that interests us here is the 6th "System Update". Image unavailable (removed by its host)- Insert your USB key with the CFW 3.55 Kmeaw copied on it, then select "System Update" (choice No. 6), press SELECT and START buttons simultaneously. Do what is written on the screen, the console restarts and proceeds with the update.
- If everything went well (no reason otherwise), your console restarts once and you are in CFW 3.55 Kmeaw. note: in the games tab you now have 2 new sections.
- /app_home/PS3_GAME/
- Install Package Files
Install Package Files is the folder where you install homebrews.
At this stage of the tutorial your PS3 is already hacked, but it's not completely functional to be able to read backups.
Rest assured I won't leave you midway so let's continue. Installation of homebrews
- Place BDEMU-355KM.pkg and multiMAN ver 1.16.13 BASE (20110403_011613).pkg at the root of your USB key.
- Insert your USB key and go to Install Package Files.
- Proceed successively to their installations with the CROSS button.
Congratulations, you have just installed your first homebrews.
For information
It is possible for you to launch game backups because the lvl2 of the console is patched. Before, all this was directly integrated into the managers who took care of patching the lvl2 and adding the syscalls in memory.
Since some updates of the managers (gaia manager, multiman etc ...) the patch of the lvl2 is no longer integrated.
There was lvl2 patcher to manually patch the lvl2, the problem is that you had to relaunch the lvl2 patcher with each console restart.
Today all this is no longer necessary because there is BDEMU which is made to replace all this. You install BDEMU once and for all and it will take care of patching the lvl2 with each console restart.
Also note that all this only concerns the CFW 3.55 Kmeaw, indeed in the CFW 3.55 waninkoko V2 the syscall are directly integrated into the Lvl2 of custom firmware..
Know that the installation of another CFW 3.55 is done in the same way.
Only homebrews are to be taken according to the version of your CFW.
Congratulation your PS3 is now hacked and you can enjoy all the new features of your beloved dark beast.
I wanted to thank all the teams of Tgames who trust me, but more particularly arnauto who was the first to do the tutorial on CFW 3.55 Kmeaw, salahpayne for his clarifications on the absence of Recovery Mode on some machines, as well as mamule for his contribution and actarus1973 for the banner MachOne
A titre informatif
MachOne wrote:alright you have the latest firmware to date before the next one which will be 3.61 and so it's impossible for you to hack your PS3 for now!!!
and you have no idea when that might be???
I have a lot of games ************ and it's too bad I can't make use of them.
ah before I forget thanks a lot MachOne for the tutorial it's really well explained.

thanks for your attention, no I don't know when and I don't think it'll be any time soon given the number of lawsuits that SONY is filing these days, few hackers are getting their feet wet, the only thing I can advise you is to be patient....
