First patch I made to convert the game Gex 3D (formerly 3DFX to D3D version)

Exclusive to Tgames.fr

Gex 3D : Enter The Gecko (Patch D3D) V1.2 by Tgames
------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW VERSION ! Please don't use the previous version anymore.

[ENGLISH]

This patch will support DirectX 3D Graphics Cards (others than 3DFX) on 3DFX UK/PAL PC Version.

Features :
----------

- No CD feature (Play without disc)
- Support of all DirectX 3D Compatible Graphics Cards (Nvidia, ATI...)
- No emulation software needed (say bye to nglide etc...)
- Works on Windows 95, 98, 98 SE, 2000, XP, Vista, 7


Installation :
--------------

0) Install your Gex 3D 3DFX Game
1) Replace "gex3d.exe" file in C:\Program Files\Crystal Dynamics\gex23dfx folder.
2) Play ! No more step, all no 3DFX card will work now !


Changelog :

V1.0 Alpha (only for test) : Initial release, voices are experimental (missing some voices).
------- To get voices in-game, rename "voiceuk" folder to "voice" in C:\Program Files\Crystal Dynamics\gex23dfx\audio ==> Warning it's experimental
------- No graphical issue, works well with Nvidia Card (tested on Geforce 4 Ti 4200) on Windows 98 SE and Windows XP

V1.1.1 Beta Release : No need to use a fix for registry anymore (now supported internaly).
------- Voice are now supported without any folder modification
------- Still missing some voices => Will be fixed in next release !
------- Better No-CD Feature => no missing files error during gameplay now, they are skipped.

V1.2.0 Stable Release : All original UK voices are supported now.
------- All Voices are now supported without any folder modification
------- Nothing is missing, but some tests need to be done to be sure about that.

Ce patch permet de support les cartes graphique compatible DirectX 3D (autre que 3DFX) sur la version PC 3DFX UK/PAL.

0) Installez votre jeu Gex 3D Version 3DFX
1) Remplacer le fichier "gex3d.exe" dans le répertoire C:\Program Files\Crystal Dynamics\gex23dfx.
2) Jouez ! Pas d'étape supplémentaire, toutes les cartes non 3DFX maintenant compatible !

I confirm, the D3D version of the game as well as my 3DFX->D3D patch work perfectly on Windows 10 thanks to dgVoodoo2!

Just for those on Windows 10, a small preconfigured ZIP with dgVoodoo2 for the patched 3DFX->D3D version.

it will also work on the D3D version alone, you just need to move:

- D3D8.dll
- D3DImm.dll
- DDraw
- dgVoodoo.conf
-dgVoodooCpl.exe

into the D3D version's folder. (that is C:\Program Files (x86)\Crystal Dynamics\gex23d (D3D Version))

For those using the 3DFX version, you should only use my ZIP (if you want to use Direct 3D).

Hello,

I just downloaded the patch.

The game launches fine.

However I see that you used dgvodoo.

I've also used it for older games but when I want to change dgvodoo's settings to display the game at a higher resolution I can't (2560x1440, my screen's native resolution).

I actually can't change anything, when I select the game's directory, it's impossible to apply it, the box doesn't respond.

So I'm stuck with the default setting you configured in dg vodoo (old geforce 1080p)

That's already very good but can't we do better? =)

Yes that was normal, the version of DgVoodoo2 I provided with Gex 3D has settings that can't be changed via the configuration file (in order to avoid the game not launching or it being reset to zero by mistake).

However you can download this version of DgVoodoo2 and extract-replace the files in the game's directory with those from this pack:

Then open dgVoodoo.conf with Notepad++

Locate at line 136:

Code: Select all

Resolution                          = h:1920, v:1080

Change to:

Code: Select all

Resolution                          = h:2560, v:1440

Save, then launch the game!

Don't forget to enable the game's music (it's possible now without the CD), thanks to the tool available here:
