[TUTORIAL] RemoteJoy Lite

Hi everyone,
  • Today I'm going to explain what this famous software is as well as how to install it, I named RemoteJoy Lite. It's actually a piece of software that will let you display your psp's screen on your computer, extremely handy if you want to make videos of your gameplay or even play your psp games on your computer without going through an emulator in case your buttons, your screen or others are broken and therefore prevent you from playing your psp game properly.

Introduction - Prerequisites and warning

  • First, let's start with the list of materials needed to install RemoteJoy:
    • A cracked PSP (works with any CF, permanent or not, greater than or equal to 5.00 M33-6 and 5.50 GEN)
    • A PC (No kidding?! o_O)
    • A USB/PSP cable normally provided with your psp in the box at purchase
    • Your brain (and knowing how to use it :P)

There, after this I'd also like to make an important remark: RemoteJoy Lite makes your psp freeze (that is to say it turns off spontaneously after a few seconds of lag) if you activate the plugin at the same time as another plugin using a USB connection that's already activated.
Example: If you try to play on your psp with X Link Kai (plugin using a USB connection to play in infrastructure mode) and you want to see your psp's screen on the computer at the same time, your psp will freeze => So you need to only activate one of the two, for example via the recovery menu

I - A little information about RemoteJoy

  • I won't have much to say about it apart from not very useful chit-chat: RemoteJoy is a piece of software programmed by Akind allowing, as I said above, to display your psp's screen on that of your computer and other things today with the newer versions.

It remains however only accessible for windows users and there's therefore no version for those on Linux or Mac OS (you can nevertheless use it if you're on Linux or Mac with software such as Wine which lets you run programs intended for Windows on Linux or even using a virtual console).

It's currently at version 0.19, there is however a 0.20 version but it's an alpha version that doesn't work, the programmer hasn't, to my knowledge, released a final working 0.20 version, that's why I'll teach you how to install version 0.19 in this tutorial.

For those who will have guessed it, installing RemoteJoy will be done in two steps: one step where you'll install the plugin on your psp and another step where you'll install the software on your computer.

    There, now part II :)

II - How to install it

  • First of all to install it, download this file:

This content is for members only. Log in or register for free to see it.
PS: This file is a .zip archive, to be able to open it you'll need a decompression program like IZarc, WinRar, 7zip, etc[/align]

  • Open the archive you just downloaded, then open the "RemoteJoy Lite 0.19" folder, you'll come across two folders, a PSP folder and a PC folder.

II.1 - On the PSP side:

  • Open the PSP folder

Image unavailable (removed by its host)
  • Plug your psp into your computer via a USB cable or insert your Memory Stick into your computer
  • Extract the "seplugins" folder

Image unavailable (removed by its host)
  • Choose as destination your psp that you just plugged in (normally in Computer): for me it's the removable disk E:

Image unavailable (removed by its host)
  • Unplug your psp

PS: I've already entered the command lines into the game and vsh files, so you won't have to go through the recovery menu to activate the plugin ;)
PS: If you already have plugins on your psp, just follow the same procedure but selecting only the content of the "seplugins" folder you downloaded and with the destination being the "seplugins" folder of your psp ;)

II.2 - On the PC side:

  • Open the PC folder

Image unavailable (removed by its host)
  • Extract all its content somewhere on your computer (in a folder on your desktop for example)

Image unavailable (removed by its host)

Careful: If the PSP Type B drivers are already installed on your computer, skip directly to step III, otherwise keep following this part.
For the others then, I recommend following this tutorial explaining how to install these PSP type B drivers which I made partly to complete this tutorial. Once you've finished installing these PSP type B drivers, you can move on to step III ;)

III - Operation and commands

  • Now that the plugin is on your psp and the necessary drivers are installed we'll be able to see how to make it work, for that follow these steps:
    - Plug your PSP into your computer via a USB cable
    - Launch RemoteJoyLite_en.exe in the "PC" folder you downloaded

And there you go! If everything works correctly you should see your psp's screen on the computer (your game must already be launched beforehand).

    Now the keys:
    • Alt + Enter => Lets you switch to fullscreen mode or not
    • F1 => Displays the FPS (Frames per second, the frame rate) and the colors
    • F3 => Enables or disables the screen display
    • F4 => Removes the window options to leave only the screen
    • F11 => Takes a screenshot (it will be saved in the "Capture" folder of the "PC" folder)
    • Escape => Displays the configuration menu

In the configuration menu you'll be able to notably change the keys on your keyboard corresponding to those on your PSP if you want to play your psp game via your computer keyboard ("Key" tab). If you want to take a video of your psp via RemoteJoy, you'll be able to set the parameters in the "Capture" tab.

Note: When you record a video with RemoteJoy, it doesn't record the sound. To fix this, you need to plug a jack/jack cable between your PSP's headphone output and your computer's microphone input ;)

There, this tutorial is coming to an end, I hope you liked it. If you have questions/opinions/advice about the tutorial or if you're having trouble installing RemoteJoy despite this tutorial don't hesitate to tell me ;)

Hi,

Sorry for the very late reply (a few IRL problems but that's passed now). Thanks for the compliments from both of you anyway :D

As for the photos indeed it's true that could help a bit more, I'll try to sort that out quickly ;)

for info, remote joylite doesn't capture sound unless you plug a jack-jack cable between the pc's mic input and the psp's headphone output

Hello,

Small questions please:

- Can we keep playing with our PSP's buttons with this method?

- Is it possible to play with a controller plugged into our PC instead of the PSP? If so, what's the procedure please?

Thanks!
