For this end of year we're going to show you how to gain speed under Windows XP, Vista and 7
First of all head to Start->Run->regedit->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Image unavailable (removed by its host)
Then SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet Image unavailable (removed by its host)
Then Session Manager->Memory Management Image unavailable (removed by its host)
Then in the right-hand pane, do a right-clickNew->DWORD Value Image unavailable (removed by its host)
Name it IOPageLockLimit and give it the following value (depending on your computer's available memory)
- 128 MB of RAM: 0001C000
- 256 MB of RAM: 0003C000
- 384 MB of RAM: 0005C000
- 512 MB of RAM: 0007C000
- 640 MB of RAM: 0009C000
- 1024 MB of RAM: 000F0000
- 2048 MB of Ram: 001E0000
- 3072 MB of Ram: 002F0000
- 4096 MB of Ram: 003F0000
Leave the value in hexadecimal then OK
Turn off the PC and turn it back on for the changes to take effect
Puis SYSTEME->CurrentControlSet
Puis Session Manager->Memory Management
it affects ram/virtual memory usage and so in theory yes, it's faster since windows knows how much ram you have. (it should know it... (it actually does know it). and sets this value automatically and therefore uses less virtual memory (hdd) which is slower than ram
Thanks for this tip but personally with my Win7 64bits I'm missing a step in your tree path right after SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet I need to continue on Control and then I find Session Manager otherwise there's nothing there for me lol!
I don't know if that's the case for everyone but with registry edits you have to be precise.

Thanks for this openness, I plan to do it when I have time

X - 64 = y (X being your PC's memory, we subtract the total amount of RAM by 64)
y * 1024 = z (we convert from megabytes to kilobytes)
z = 70000 (we convert to hexadecimal, the Windows calculator can do it for you )
Example for 8 GB of memory
Put the calculator in scientific mode (dec mode to start)
8192-64=8128
8128 * 1024=8323072
8323072 = 7F0000
so the value to enter in IoPageLockLimit is 0007F0000
8192-64=8128
8128 * 1024=8323072
8323072 = 7F0000
