Pokémon Red to Emerald rebuilt natively: G1R Deluxe 0.4
G1R Deluxe natively recreates eleven Pokémon games, from Red to Emerald, on PC, iPhone, Switch, PS4 and Xbox, using your own cartridges. Beware of the fake site.
Eleven games, no emulator
G1R Deluxe, also known as Gen1Recomp, by bryanthaboi, is a recreation of Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. The engine is rewritten by hand in Lua, on LÖVE2D, based on the pret project's disassemblies: it does not emulate the Game Boy. The data, graphics and music are extracted on first launch from the ROM you provide. Version 0.4.0 came out on 2 November, with fixes, notably for the Switch. The Game Boy Advance games are still in beta.
What you get
On which machines?
Windows, Linux, iOS, Linux handhelds, the Switch and the PS4 (as homebrew) and Xbox in developer mode, each with its own installation guide.
What you need, and a warning
You need your own cartridges: only US English ROMs are accepted, verified by their SHA-1 hash, and they are not copied to the cache. The author warns that a site imitating the project, gen1recomp.com, has nothing to do with them and now distributes adware: do not download anything from it. The only official sources are the GitHub repository, the Discord and gen1re.com. Windows Defender sometimes wrongly flags the executable; each release publishes the SHA-256 hashes of its files so you can verify them.
