Ecstatica 1 and 2 rebuilt in C, from PS Vita to Android
An open source project runs Ecstatica 1 and 2 on PC, PS Vita, PSP, Android and iOS. Version 0.9.7 reads the GOG and Steam re-release of 26 October.
Two adventure games from the 1990s
Ecstatica (1994) and Ecstatica II (1997), by Andrew Spencer Studios, are adventure games whose characters are drawn with ellipsoids rather than polygons. Developer xesf decompiled the Windows 95 version of Ecstatica II, then rewrote its code in portable C99 (GPL-3.0 licence). A single engine runs both games.
The 2026 re-release
SNEG and Andrew Spencer Studios re-released both games on 26 October 2026, on GOG (DRM-free) and on Steam, with free demos. According to the project, it is the first digital release of Ecstatica II. Version 0.9.7, released on 27 October, reads the files of this re-release and its demos as installed. It uses the re-release's wider views for widescreen: 16:9 by default, up to 32:9 on PC, and 16:9 on Vita.
