Panzer Dragoon Saga on PC, in HD and widescreen

By Tgames · · 1 min read

The creator of the Saturn emulator Yaba Sanshiro releases Panzer Dragoon Saga on PC: HD, widescreen up to 21:9, no slowdown, from your own discs.

The cult Saturn RPG, finally playable on PC

Panzer Dragoon Saga (1998), “AZEL -Panzer Dragoon RPG-” in Japan, has never been re-released: according to Time Extension, Sega reportedly lost its source code, and its four Saturn discs sell for a fortune. On October 24, devMiyax, the author of the Saturn emulator Yaba Sanshiro, announced “AZEL -PANZER DRAGOON RPG- Recompiled for PC”. Their website offers version 1.1.1, for 64-bit Windows 10 and 11.

What it changes
  • High definition and widescreen: 4:3, 16:9 or 21:9.
  • No more slowdown, and no more wobbling polygons.
  • A CRT mode with four shaders.
  • Keyboard and controller, with remappable controls, and 10 slots for save states.
  • The four discs can be swapped from the menu.

A “recompiled” version that is still emulation

Despite its name, this is not a native port: Time Extension points out that the program relies on Yaba Sanshiro's emulation technique, not on a decompilation of the game. A real decompilation, led by yaz0r, is still in progress. You download a “builder”, which creates the game in under a minute from your own disc: Japanese version GS-9076 V1.001, or US and European MK-81307, in.cue/.bin,.chd or.iso. No game data is provided. The page states neither the license nor the price, and the project is not affiliated with Sega.

For other Saturn games, see Kronos 2.8.0 and Ymir 0.4.
