Anbernic RG DDS: 3DS emulator Azahar drops the brand

By Tgames · · 1 min read

The team behind Azahar, the 3DS emulator, accuses Anbernic of promoting its RG DDS with piracy versions of its software, and drops support for it.

What Azahar objects to

On October 26, 2026, the team behindAzahar, the 3DS emulator that succeeded Citra, posted a message on X: Anbernic is said to be promoting its RG DDS, its 3DS-style dual-screen handheld, with "unofficial piracy-focused forks" of Azahar, openly shown in its advertising.

The announced consequence: Azahar will not officially support this device, nor the brand's other handhelds. Bugs related to these machines will be neither investigated nor fixed, and the team recommends looking for other devices.

Anbernic carries on

Anbernic has not responded publicly. Two days later, the brand even highlighted PS4 emulation on the RG DDS, with Transformers: Devastation, without naming the emulator used. Pre-orders are open, with shipping planned for December 10.

A brand already in the crosshairs

This is not the first problem. The ESA, the American video game industry lobby, asked for Anbernic to be listed among sellers of "superfakes", and the brand removed microSD cards from its handhelds. Azahar's complaint is different: it targets the use of free software, published under the GPL licence, in modified versions that its authors disapprove of.

For buyers, this changes one thing: if something goes wrong with Azahar on an RG DDS, the project's team will not help.
