Halo CE runs natively on Anbernic RG35XX H, with bots and online play

By Tgames · · 2 min read

Halo: Combat Evolved runs natively on the Anbernic RG35XX H under Knulli, without emulation: 60 fps in menus, 40 to 57 fps in campaign, bots and online play.

Halo in your pocket, without an emulator

The project halo-ce-anbernic-rg35xx ports Halo: Combat Evolved to handhelds with an Allwinner H700 chip, such as theAnbernic RG35XX H. There is no emulation: no xemu, no Box64, no Wine. The port is based on OpenCE, the C decompilation of the game's Xbox version, recompiled for the console's ARM64 processor and Mali-G31 graphics chip. Releases have followed one another since 2 October 2026.

Performance

Measurements by the project on an RG35XX H under Knulli, at the default render resolution (480×360, with dynamic resolution):
  • menus at 60 fps;
  • about 57 fps on 343 Guilty Spark and 59 fps at the start of the Halo level;
  • about 43 fps during the beach battle in The Silent Cartographer, the most demanding section.

What's new on 15 October
  • The matches against bots, from 1 to 15, without a network: Slayer and Team Slayer, from Easy to Legendary. The bots come from the PS Vita port.
  • The online play in co-op and multiplayer, with PCs and other handhelds, and the server browser.
  • Updates offered from the console, and Halo Custom Edition maps.

What you need
  • An H700 console running Knulli (tested with Gladiator II); a PortMaster package exists for muOS and other firmwares. Only the RG35XX H has been tested; the RG35XX Plus and SP should work.
  • Your own disc image of Halo on Xbox, in the North American or European version: the PC version's files do not work.
  • About 3 GB free on the microSD card.
To choose your console's firmware, see our tutorial on handheld console firmwares; to create an image of your disc, our tutorial on original Xbox ISOs.
