ARMSX3 1.1 and ARMSX2 2.8.3: PS3 and PS2 make progress on Android

ARMSX3, the Android PS3 emulator derived from RPCS3, moves to 1.1.1 and arrives on Google Play; ARMSX2 2.8.3 speeds up PS2 emulation on Mali chips.

ARMSX3: RPCS3 in your pocket

ARMSX3 is the Android port of RPCS3, the leading PS3 emulator on PC. Free and open source, it is led by jpolo1224, who also works on ARMSX2. Three versions came out in three days: 1.0.9.1 on 9 October 2026, 1.1 on the 10th and 1.1.1 on the 11th. The emulator now has a listing on Google Play.

What’s new
  • Splatterhouse no longer crashes after a few seconds.
  • LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 no longer freezes during heavy loading. The game was running out of video memory; the fix should help other games that get stuck the same way.
  • Ported from RPCS3: the blue squares inArmored Core: Verdict Day are gone, and the rear-view mirror in Gran Turismo 6 (up to version 1.05) is no longer corrupted.
  • Patches that add code to a game no longer crash the emulator.
  • Battery (1.1.1): with the game paused and the screen locked, the emulator no longer wakes up 2,000 times per second, but 63 times, as measured on an AYN Odin 3. Motion sensors are switched off while paused.
  • The GDB debug server, which left a network port open on the phone, has been removed from the Android version.

Which phone do you need?
  • Minimum: Android 11, 64-bit ARMv8.1 processor, Snapdragon 865/870 or Mali-G57, Vulkan 1.1 and 8 GB of memory. Enough to run lighter games.
  • Recommended: Android 13, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 12 GB.
  • Optimal: Android 14 and Snapdragon 8 Elite, with active cooling for the most demanding games.
As with RPCS3, you need to install the PS3 firmware, downloaded from Sony’s website, and use your own games. The method is the same as in our RPCS3 tutorial.

ARMSX2 2.8.3: faster PS2 on Mali chips

On the same day, ARMSX2 2.8.3 extends MaliSX2, a Vulkan driver written by bmdhacks for the emulator, to Mali-G57, G68, G77 and G78 chips, very common in Android handhelds, including the Anbernic RG 476H. On a Mali-G57, Ace Combat 4 and 5, unplayable with the stock driver, now run at full speed. The driver is downloaded from the rendering settings. It requires a recent Mali kernel driver; otherwise, the game falls back to Arm’s driver. Another addition: when two controllers are assigned to the same player, both vibrate.

Version 2.8.2, released on 7 October, had brought RAISR texture upscaling (×2 or ×4) and up to five auto-saves. To choose the right emulator for each console, see our guide to emulation on Android.
