Peer Pressure: the first permanent Xbox 360 softmod, no soldering required

By Tgames · · 1 min read

Grimdoomer, the author of BadUpdate, releases Peer Pressure: an Xbox 360 softmod that survives a reboot, with no soldering or chip, on most models.

What changes compared to BadUpdate

BadUpdate opened up the Xbox 360 without soldering, but the exploit had to be rerun at every boot. Peer Pressure, released as version 1.0.477 on 7 October 2026, is persistent: once installed, the console boots straight into a hacked state, about five seconds slower than a stock console. That is what was missing to compete with RGH without soldering.

What it enables
  • Running homebrew: code signature checks are removed.
  • Three boot modes, including a stock mode.
  • A management app, with automatic updates, and NAND write protection.
  • Launching XeLL with the eject button, loading DLLs (RB3Enhanced for Rock Band 3, older dashboards), and a boot animation editor.
Dashlaunch plugins are not supported. The source code remains closed, by the author's choice.

Which consoles?
  • Compatible: Xenon, Zephyr, Falcon, Jasper (the “Fat” models) and Trinity (the first Slim).
  • Incompatible: Corona (later Slims) and Winchester (Xbox 360 E), whose circuitry was patched by Microsoft.
You need a 2.5-inch mechanical hard drive (some SSDs with a DRAM cache work), a USB drive, and the game Rock Band Blitz, which serves as the entry point. The exploit modifies the NAND and the hard drive's security sectors: follow the official guide exactly, and back up your NAND.

Beware of copies

Grimdoomer warns against the “repackaged” versions already circulating. Download only from his GitHub repository. To compare with RGH 3 and BadUpdate, see our tutorial Hacking your Xbox 360 in 2026, and to play your games from the hard drive, copying your games to a hard drive.
