Recalbox 10.1: Challenges, GunCon 2 and Naomi 2 at 60 fps on Raspberry Pi 5

By Tgames · · 1 min read

Recalbox 10.1, the French retro gaming distribution, has been available to everyone since 4 September 2026, and its patch 10.1.1 since 18 September.

The new features that matter
  • Recalbox Challenges: competitions on arcade games every two weeks, with leaderboards. All you need is a free Patreon account; no paid subscription is required.
  • The GunCon 2, the PS2 light gun, with a claimed accuracy of 99%, a calibration screen and support for 31 kHz screens.
  • Naomi 2, Model 3 and ST-V at 60 frames per second on Raspberry Pi 5: 3D arcade systems that until now were out of reach for the little board.
  • Reworked controller configuration, virtual keyboards, viewing of game manuals and maps, and virtual systems by genre.
  • Installation on any connected drive, directly from the menu.
  • Four new systems: Epoch Cassette Vision, Philips P2000T, Vircon32 and Exelvision EXL100, the last of which is a French computer from 1984.

The Recalbox model

New versions go first to the project's Patreon supporters, a few weeks before everyone else: 10.1 had been handed to them as early as July. The next one is already on its way, with Recalbox 11 in testing with them since early October.

Installing or updating

An existing Recalbox installation updates from its menu. For a first installation, the image is downloaded from the official site, for Raspberry Pi (up to the Pi 5), PC, handheld consoles and Odroid, and written to the card with Raspberry Pi Imager, which even offers Recalbox directly in its gaming systems category.

Games and BIOS files must come from your own cartridges and consoles: the ready-to-use “packs” sold with some SD cards are illegal, and often riddled with broken files.
