WiiFlow, the launcher that defined the Wii

By Tgames · · 1 min read

Impossible to talk about Tgames without mentioning WiiFlow: the forum was long its official French-speaking site. More than fifteen years after its inception, this launcher remains one of the most popular homebrews for Wii... and Wii U in Wii mode.

What is WiiFlow?

WiiFlow is an open source launcher ("loader") for the Wii. Its "coverflow" interface, where game covers scroll in 3D, made it famous. It allows you to launch from a USB hard drive or SD card the saves of your Wii and GameCube games, but also your channels and homebrews.

WiiFlow Lite, the maintained version

The original project no longer evolves, but the community has taken over with WiiFlow Lite, a lighter and still updated version. It brings many fixes, better USB drive support, themes and "plugins" that transform WiiFlow into a true retro gaming center: it can launch emulators (Super Nintendo, Mega Drive, arcade...) directly from its interface, complete with game covers.

What you need to use it
  • A Wii (or Wii U in Wii mode) with the Homebrew Channel installed.
  • The cIOS required to read saves from the USB.
  • A hard drive or USB key, preferably formatted in FAT32 or WBFS depending on your needs.

Customizing your WiiFlow

Game covers, animated backgrounds, complete themes, sounds: customization is part of the fun. The Wii Homebrews section is full of themes and resources shared by members for years.

To install or update WiiFlow step by step, consult the Wii tutorials, and find the files in the downloads.
