The Wii U in 2026: Aroma and homebrews

Long overlooked, the Wii U has become an excellent console to modify. Its scene has evolved a lot and the current tools are much simpler and safer than at its beginnings.
Aroma, the current environment
Aroma is today the reference homebrew environment on Wii U. It succeeds Tiramisu and allows, with a "plugins" system, to add functions to the console without touching the original system: screenshots, stats display, backups, and of course launching applications.
The included Wii mode
The Wii U includes a complete Wii. Once the Wii U part is modified, it's possible to install the Homebrew Channel in Wii mode and use there WiiFlow Lite and all Wii homebrews.

For the Switch, the situation is different and depends on the model: we have a separate article about it. In any case, start with a complete backup of the internal memory.
