[INTRO] The DS/DSi Hack

For my first article, I'm going to introduce you to the Underground World of the DS. Are you ready? Then here we go

Part 1: Intro

To start off right, I'm first going to introduce you to the essential tool for really enjoying the DS underground. It's called a LINKER.

What's a linker you might ask? Well, it's simply a small cartridge, comparable in size to an original cartridge, that has a small slot where you can insert an SD card.

So here's a picture of a linker that will serve as our example:

This is an M3 DS real, it has the distinction of being simple to use, in french and has many options, see for yourselves:

Works on Ds or DsLite.
• Supports classic and HC (high capacity) Micro Sd cards.
• Built-in "cheat" function, supports Action Replay.
• Control of the current game: Slowmotion mode etc....
• Ability to do a software reset.
• Easy to update without needing built-in flash memory.
• Skinable.
• Slot 1 Linker no passme or passkey needed.
• Supports Slot 2 expansions.
• multilingual touch interface.
• Includes Media-Ex and moonshell.
• Supports MP3, OGG and DPG, DSM and GBM.
• Supports Ebooks, Word, Txt etc....
• Image viewer: BMP, JPG, GIF, PNG.
• Includes PDA functions: Memo, Note, Phone Book, Calculator etc....
• Supports DS sleep mode.

Tempting all that huh? However, one option isn't described here yet it turns out to be the most important one: Reading copied Nintendo DS games. Why isn't it mentioned you might ask? Simply because, according to the law, linkers are only authorized for playing homebrews (like on Wii) or other files besides pirated games.

Let's remember though that downloading is illegal and is punishable by a fine of over €300,000, now you've been warned.

Now let's get back to the topic at hand. Of course, many other linkers have more or less the same features each. The choice of a linker will mainly come down to a matter of price and availability (all being very good products aside from 2-3 exceptions).

Here's a small list of the most well-known linkers:

-Supercard DS ONE (slot1)
-Supercard SD/mini SD/micro SD (slot2)
-Acekard 2 (slot1)
-M3 DS Real (slot1)
-R4 revolution (slot1)
-Cyclo DS (slot1)
-...

There are of course many others, but these are the most reputable on the market.
Watch out though, there are also counterfeits or poor imitations! The most well-known example is surely the N5, an imitation of the R4 revolution. The specs might be similar, but the performance will be much worse, beware!

Let's now get back to our example, the M3 DS Real.

So let's say we've already bought the linker and received it (links to reliable shops will be given at the end of the article).

What's nice in the pack? Well, everything that basic linkers have, namely the cartridge and an SD adapter.

In our example, the pack contains the cartridge, the micro SD reader as well as a rumble pack. See for yourselves:

Partie 1 : Intro

Pour bien débuter,je vais tout d'abord vous présenter l'outil essentiel pour bien pouvoir profiter de l'underground DS.Il s'agit d'un LINKER.

C'est quoi un linker me direz-vous ? Eh bien,il s'agit simplement d'une petite cartouche,à la taille comparable à une cartouche originale qui possède une petite fente ou l'on peut insérer une carte SD.

Voici donc une image d'un linker qui va nous servir d'exemple :



Il s'agit d'un M3 DS real,il a la particuliarité d'etre simple d'utilisation,en français et dispose de nombreuses options,voyez par vous memes :

Fonctionne sur Ds ou DsLite.

• Fonction "triche" cheat intégrée, support de l'Action Replay.
• Controle du jeu en cours : Mode Slowmotion etc....
• Possibilité d'effectuer un reseyt software.
• Facile à mettre à jour avec sans memoire flash intégrée.
• Skinable.
• Linker Slot 1 pas de passme ou passkey necessaire.
• Supporte les extensions en Slot 2.
• interface multilingue tactile.
• Inclus Media-Ex et moonshell.
• Supporte MP3, OGG et DPG, DSM et GBM.
• Supporte les Ebooks, Word, Txt etc....
• Visionneur d'image : BMP, JPG, GIF, PNG.
• Inclus fonctions PDA : Memo, Note, Phone Book, Calculator etc....
• Supporte le mode veille de la DS.

Alléchant tout ça non ? Toutefois,une option n'est pas décrite ici et s'avère pourtant etre la plus importante : La lecture de jeux copiés Nintendo DS.Pourquoi n'est-il pas indiqué me direz-vous ? Tout simplement que,selon la loi,les linkers ne sont autorisés que pour la lecture d'homebrews (comme sur Wii) ou d'autres fichiers que les jeux piratés.

Rappelons tout de meme que le téléchargement est illégal et est passible d'une amende de plus de 300 000€,vous voilà prévenu.

Revenons maintenant à nos moutons.Bien sur,de nombreux autres linkers ont plus ou moins les memes caractérisitques chacun.Le choix d'un linker se basera surtout sur une question de prix et de disponibilité (étant tous de très bons produits mis à part 2-3 exceptions).

Il y en a bien sur de nombreux autres,mais ceux-ci sont les plus réputés sur le marché.
Attention toutefois,il existe aussi des contrefaçons ou de pales imitations ! L'exemple le plus connu est surement celui du N5,imitation du R4 revolution.Les caractéristiques seront peut etre semblable,mais les performances seront bien moins meilleures,méfiez-vous !

Revenons maintenant à notre exemple,le M3 DS Real.

Nous disons donc que nous avons déjà acheté le linker et reçu (des liens vers des boutiques fiables vous serons donnés à la fin de l'article).

Quoi de beau dans le pack ? Eh bien,tout ce que les linkers de base ont,à savoir la cartouche et un adaptateur SD.

there's also the:
Flashme: flash your DS to launch unsigned codes! back in the day this was really useful, less so nowadays unless you want to play games between a linker and the Big N version
passme: again, back in the day this let you not flash the DS and made the ds believe it was signed code.
wifime: sending a ds rom to the DS via Wifi, but you first need to flash your DS

but the linker remains the simplest and most modern, but I wanted to add this for a better understanding of DS Hacking

ya aussi le:
Flashme : flashé ça DS pour lancé des codes non signés! dans le temps cela était vraiment utile plus de nos jour sauf si vous voulez jouer a des jeux entre linker et version Big N
passme: encore une fois dans le temps cela permetais de ne pas flashé la DS et faisais croire a la ds que c'etait du code signés.
wifime: envois d'une rom ds sur la DS par Wifi, mais il faut préalablemant flasher sa DS

mais le linker reste le plus simple et le plus modérne, mais je voulais rajouter cela pour avoir une meilleur connaisance du Hack DS
